Main Responsibilities

  • Act as a Watch Keeping Officer and the Senior DP operator when in DP mode. He shall be in full control of the vessel in the absence of the Master whilst on watch.
  • To assist the Chief Officer with the management of the Bosun, AB and OS daily work.
  • Act as Senior DP Operator, watch keeper, when on shift and normal watch keeper when on conventional watches either in port, on passage or at anchor.
  • Assists Master in fire-fighting and emergency procedures controls, in the event of fire or other emergency or act as Officer in Charge of main fire party.
  • Liaises with all other Deck officers on general ship running and routines.
  • Assist Chief Officer to ensure that the cargo is secured always and organizes cargo transfers after liaison with Chief Officer.
  • Assists in paperwork if required which may be incurred by clients / charters information data requirements as directed by the Master.
  • Assist the Chief Officer as required with the Maintenance of vessel stability with reference to stability, trim, stress and bending moments, to ensure compliance with statutory stability criteria as described in approved stability documentation.
  • Liaise with the Chief Officer and assist to provide adequate fresh water supplies whilst in port and ensuring sufficient amount for vessel departure.
  • In charge of the maintenance and upkeep of all lifesaving and firefighting appliances / apparatus assisted by the second Officer, with close liaison with both Chief Officer and Chief Engineer.
  • Assist Chief Officer in maintenance of stock levels of all safety equipment, FFA and SOPEP stores.
  • Carry out GMDSS Operator duties and hold GOC certificate.
  • Review the Safety Notices, Marine Circular Correspondence files and the FMS Amendment file upon joining and re-joining the vessel.
