  • Trade qualified.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience operating cranes onboard offshore construction barges.
  • Experience in installation of top sides and heavy lift cranes

Skill / Attributes / Competencies

  • Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Shipboard familiarization and safety critical competency assessment shall be satisfactorily completed.
  • Meet Flag State requirement for the position, if required.
  • Complete Security awareness training relevant for the position.
  • To have read and understood either organizations documentation in Company Engineering procedures; Lifting Operations; Hazard Identification; Permit to Work; Event Reporting and Safety Observation Guidelines.
  • To be able to understand, interpret instructions received from offshore management and ensure this information is passed on effectively and used as identified.
  • To demonstrate active participation in project planning, risk assessments and task planning meetings.
  • To have an operational understanding of relevant industry legislative requirements and guidance notes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all personnel directing crane operations are aware of their personal responsibilities about their work in a safe manner.
  • Complete regular safety tours of the cranes and implement any actions as necessary to maintain the work place in a safe manner.
  • Operate the cranes in a safe manner and in accordance with the crane manufacturer's operating instructions always be aware of the loads involved and limitations of the rigging being used.
  • Ensure that at no times is the crane lifting any load beyond the SWL of the weakest link in any rigging arrangement attached to the hook and that such rigging is correctly certified.
  • Maintenance of the cranes and associated equipment including blocks and wires as directed by the Barge Superintendent and Chief Engineer.
  • Take part in the loading/discharging/deployment of equipment onto and from the vessel. Working as directed by the Deck Foreman or qualified Banksman in compliance with the Barge Superintendent/Masters/Chief Officer's instructions.
  • Progress the work scope as directed in accordance with the relevant Task Plans and Procedures.
  • Assist the Deck Foreman or his deputy as directed.
  • Be familiar and understand fully the Company HSE procedures and policies.
  • Ensuring that all operations under his direction are carried out in accordance with Company policies and procedures about Safety and Quality.
