Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Chief Estimator with primary responsibility for developing and leading a team of estimators to work within the Construction and Remediation group that performs construction and remediation projects for multiple internal business sectors and external markets. The position will report to the VP of Preconstruction Services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical behavior when representing the Company
  • Provide positive leadership and direction to estimating staff
  • Receive, review, schedule and make assignments for all RFP's and bid opportunities
  • Develop complete understanding of the project and proposal requirements to ensure fully responsive submissions
  • Review subcontractor bidders list to ensure adequate coverage, including that of any required minority or small business participation goals or requirements
  • Oversee estimating staff in the identification and understanding of project risks to ensure that proper risk mitigation is included in the estimating and subcontractor scoping process
  • Perform detailed scope review meetings with estimating staff
  • Perform detailed estimate review meetings with estimating staff
  • Develop internal estimates for all work for comparison to subcontractor pricing
  • Organize, schedule, and lead Bid Week and Bid Day activities
  • Close out bids or final pricing for submission
  • Work with Operations to develop project staffing plans and assemble project General Conditions estimate
  • Work with Operations and Scheduling to coordinate approach to the project to ensure that the estimate reflects sequencing and durations
  • Work with Supply Chain in the management of the company subcontractor database and subcontractor prequalification process
  • Ensure effective turn-over of successful bids, including contractual scope of work development, to Supply Chain for contract administration
  • Work with individuals in other departments (Proposal Preparation, Safety, Quality, etc.) as part of developing a complete proposal submission
  • Work with owners, architects, consultants, and subcontractors during design, budgeting and estimating phases of negotiated and design build projects
  • Oversee and lead preconstruction type efforts including:
    • Constructability Reviews
    • Value Engineering exercises
    • Meeting and working with design professionals
    • Meeting and working with subcontractor partners
  • Successfully manage both internal and external relationships
  • Provide and ensure training where required for estimating staff
  • Perform regular performance reviews with estimating staff

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related discipline
  • 15+ estimating experience with 5+ years as a Chief Estimator
  • Ability to lead and produce estimates at all phases of document completion
  • Proficient in both uni-format and CSI MasterFormat estimating
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient in the use of on-screen take-off software (currently use On Center On-Screen Take-Off)
  • Proficient in the use of electronic estimating software (currently use Sage Timberline)
  • Strong interpersonal, creative solution and problem-solving skills, and the ability to multi-task
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Willing to travel on an as needed basis
