Skill / Attributes / Competencies

  • The ability to understand interface relationship between marine and project personnel.
  • Able to communicate effectively and articulately at all levels.
  • An awareness of international Codes, Standards and Specifications.
  • Pleasant disposition with the capability to be authoritative when necessary.
  • Clear and effective oral and written communications skills in English language.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of principle discipline and peripheral subjects.
  • Strong coordination, organization and liaison skills with the ability to seek and gain consensus solutions to complex issues.

Main Responsibilities

  • Head of the technical department onboard the ship.
  • Ensures a safe and efficient operation of all machinery onboard
  • Ensures that technical staff follows safe working practices as defined by Company procedures.
  • Ensures that all technical staff onboard is familiar with the relevant procedures and trained to meet the Companies requirements.
  • To implement and maintain the vessels Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • To implement the relevant Company requirements and where applicable, the latest industry codes and standards including statutory rules and regulations.
  • Ensures that all machinery and equipment onboard is inspected within class, and meets the legal and Company requirements.
  • To ensure all workspace activities are carried out in a manner consistent with Company policies for safety, quality and environmental matters and in accordance with Corporate/Department specific procedures.
  • Responsible for maintenance and repair of all Company owned equipment onboard.
  • Identifies potential hazards associated with engine operations and advises master accordingly.
  • Is responsible for up-keeping of stock levels and timely ordering of spare parts.
  • Any additional duties within his own experience and capabilities.
  • Forms part of the vessel emergency team.
