The FES Analyst will be responsible for the taking and analysis of hazardous liquid waste samples. Analysis will fall into four main categories:

  • New waste screening and analysis: New streams are tested against declared specification.
  • Compliance sample preparation and analysis
  • Effluent mixing trials
  • Extemporaneous testing and analytical problem solving
  • Compliance samples will include FOL effluent samples such as T1012, T1075 and site waste water in T4-502. The Analyst will be asked to keep records and results for these and all tests in accordance with GLP and the FIL quality system.

    Candidates will have experience with the theory behind and operation of:

    • Chromatography: HPLC (IC), GC, GC-MS,
    • Wet Chemistry: Titration, extraction, separation, standard preparation, gravimetric analysis
    • Spectrophotometry: UV-Vis, IR, XRF, TOC/TKN Combustion Analysis
    • Calorimetry, COD, Respirometry
    The candidate should have a technical background and have experience in applying statistics, mathematics and logic in problem-solving applications. The candidate will be able to apply methods to the above technologies. An ability to develop and validate new analytical methods will also be required.




    GCSE Maths

    A Level Maths C or better

    A level Chemistry

    BSc or equivalent in Chemistry or similar

    Proficiency with MS Excel

    Programming experience in Visual Basic

    Experience in Process Industry or related

    2+ years Operational experience in the industry

    Familiarity with analytical chemistry techniques

    2+ years GLP laboratory experience
