Partner with the best

As Lead Design Engineer you will have technical leadership and execution responsibility to lead activities in the design, analysis, and production of a range of marine gearboxes for the global marine industry.

As a Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible for:
  • Designing and analysing marine gearbox assemblies and components comprising, but not limited to, parallel shaft gears, bearings, gear casings and housings, lubrication pipework with minimum guidance.
  • Selecting and reviewing transmission and auxiliary components such as clutches, brakes, thrust bearings, pumps, motors, lube system, control system.
  • Creating and supporting detailed design with layouts, calculations, 3D models, drawings, FEA, rotordynamics and complex analysis for all aspects of a marine gearbox for tendering and gearbox contracts.
  • Leading design reviews to ensure gearbox designs are fit for purpose and meet agreed customer specification requirements.
  • Producing system and component specifications and support the sourcing team so that the proposed product design meets the requirements.
  • Liaising with customers and suppliers throughout tender / design stage.
  • Producing detailed manufacturing drawings, creating specifications for bought out equipment and generate Bill of Materials on company CAD & PLM systems.
  • Taking a lead role in the investigation of performance issues or product failures, providing technical support, guidance and analysis to report root cause and corrective action.


Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a Degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Have in-depth knowledge and experience of rotating machinery and gearbox design / configurations and their performance.
  • Have in-depth knowledge and experience of marine propulsion and the importance of gear macro and micro geometry on NVH.
  • Have experience in types of propeller and selection of propulsion clutches.
  • Have an understanding of Export controls of military data.
  • Have good communication skills to liaise with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
