Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is looking for a Safety Lead / Coordinator for a secondment position with one of our clients. The Safety Lead / Coordinator will be under direct supervision from the client and will be responsible for fulfilling duties as requested by the client. Some of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Review work plans and safety SOPs to ensure they remain up-to-date
  • Develop, conduct, and track / record daily and monthly required safety briefings
  • Ensure workers have proper levels of safety training and coordinate overall task-specific safety training where required
  • Ensure proper personal protective equipment is available and used by staff and work crews
  • Conduct regulatory and customer required safety training
  • Interface with managers, supervisors, team leads, and team members on safety aspects of work efforts to promote open communication
  • Collect and document OHSA required information for compliance with the processes and procedures
  • Follow all local codes, standards and regulatory safety requirements
  • Conduct, document, and report all required monthly and annual safety audits


Skills / Qualifications




  • Even though a University degree is highly preferred, demonstration of the skills and qualifications mentioned below will be important:
    • More than 5 years of experience supporting/leading safety management at construction sites (renewable facilities)
    • Experience in managing the health & safety program at a corporate level in regards to engineering and facility maintenance work
    • Strong technical knowledge and background in regulatory standards and safety engineering
    • Experience in performing multi-task projects with tight completion deadlines in a brown field environment working around existing facilities
    • Good working skills using MS Word, Power-Point, and Excel
    • Demeanor that promotes safety consciousness, open-mindedness with positive approach to problem solving
    • Experience in developing and presenting safety training packages
    • Experience in managing the training requirements for facility O&M workers
    • Experience in assessing work hazards and developing safe work procedures
    • Experience in briefing work crews and building occupants in the safety aspects of maintenance / construction work
    • Training in OHSA safety and/or industrial hygiene programs related to facility O&M, construction, and environmental / infrastructure field work
    • Preference will be given to qualified candidates in the Sarnia, ON area
