About the opportunity:

The Electrical Engineer is appointed by the SRP Chief Engineer (SCE), to provide electrical engineering support for projects within the Site Redevelopment Programme (SRP). The role includes, through the SRP Safety Led Gated Engineering process, the management of the electrical engineering design submissions review and acceptance by key stakeholders; review and audit of designers for SQEPness and process.

  • To manage the review and acceptance of designs within a particular discipline on behalf of the design authority.
  • To audit designers SQEPness within a particular discipline on behalf of the project.
  • To support the AEM and EM in the development of designs.
  • To support the Programme's Design Authority Intelligent Customer capability.
  • To provide assurance to the SCE that all aspects engineering within a particular discipline have been carried to an acceptable standard.
  • To liaise with other engineering areas of Barrow site to ensure best practice is applied to the engineering of SRP and a common approach and specification where appropriate.
  • Accountabilities:

The Electrical Engineer is accountable to the Project Engineering Manager (EM) for the control of the Design submissions within their associated disciplines. The Electrical Engineer is accountable for supporting the Safety Led Gated Engineering Process and the management of the associated stakeholders.


Here's what you'll need:

  • SC clearance or the ability to attain it
  • UK national
  • Barrow 40 hours a week, 5 days a week. T&S will be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Good communication skills, build and maintain effective relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and to be proactive
  • Relavent and demonstrable experience in their field
  • Experience of the design, specification and construction of the built environment.
  • Experience of managing the review and appraisal of engineering documentation / specifications.
  • Significant experience of construction practices within the UK industry, and a strong understanding of UK H&S Regulations, CDM Regulations, Quality and Environmental Control.

  • Hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a suitable engineering or science subject
  • Chartered Membership of a Professional Institute is an advantage
  • Have broad knowledge and understanding across a range of nuclear power plant engineering issues
  • Experience of working within nuclear licence conditions.
  • Experience of development of ALARP & BAT cases for new facilities.
  • Experience of delivery using the RIBA Plan of Work 2013 and BSIRA BG6 (2018).
  • Experience of delivering contracts using NEC3.
  • Proven track record of holding an authoritative position on a complex construction project - multi component and multi-disciplinary, and ideally delivered in nuclear.
