About the Opportunity

We are looking to appoint a graduate or an electrical engineer in the early years of their career to strengthen our HV Cables/Substation design teams. The successful candidate will effectively support our Energy team and help grow activities in transmission and distribution, such as supporting Transmission and Distribution FEED frameworks and major worldwide energy Clients. We are involved on projects ranging from 11kV up to 500kV both in AC and DC.

The ideal candidate needs to have a strong technical bias, a keen interest in technology and mathematical modelling, a methodical approach to problem solving and can utilise their skills to support growth in our business and our people.

We have diverse design teams based at offices in London, Cardiff, and Bristol; however, we require the flexibility to travel across all our offices and client locations. Work from home arrangements are available during COVID 19 restrictions.

The Role

As part of our team you'll be providing a range of services throughout the design process on all elements of HV cable systems (from 11 up to 500kV) and substation configuration. This includes feasibility design through to the preparation of technical specifications, production of detailed construction drawings and design compliance checks.

In your role, you'll be required to provide Project Engineering for the full range the design activities.

Key responsibilities include
  • Providing engineering support to HV Cable/Substation projects (i.e. cable ratings calculations, CAD cable route and plant drawings),
  • The day-to-day coordination with allocated design teams including Protection & Control, Civil Engineers and CAD Technicians,
  • Processing of inputs being provided by other departments and external groups, such as survey/geotechnical, transport and environmental,
  • Performing site related activities (i.e. surveys, quality assurance).

Depending on seniority, you may also need to be:
  • Managing agreed project deliverables,
  • Ensuring the design meets all the client's scoping requirements and compliance with their technical specifications,
  • Conducting engineering reviews, quality assurance checks and approval of design drawings, reports, construction programmes and other deliverables,
  • Attending Design Reviews, Hazard Reviews, and other related meetings,
  • Acting as main point of contact with the client during the various design phases.

You must enjoy working in a multinational team environment and depending on experience, using your expertise to guide other members of staff. You'll also require the ability to deliver to tight timescales, be technically accurate and to manage a number of schemes simultaneously, either as the lead or as part of a team.

Good verbal and written communication skills combined and quantitative and problem-solving skills are essential as part of this role.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering,
  • The candidate needs to have a strong technical bias, a keen interest in technology and mathematical modelling, a methodical approach to problem solving,
  • Flexibility to work on a number of different projects concurrently.

  • Master's Degree in a Power related field,
  • Previous AutoCAD experience,
  • Previous power systems or utility experience,
  • UK Driving license.
