Lead a team of multi-discipline engineers in the engineering, execution and delivery of the area, systems, plant and equipment to time, cost and quality, and in addition assist the Director of Engineering in aspects of running the project or Project Engineering Department

  • Lead a multi-discipline design and engineering input to an assigned project, including where relevant, leading solutions to technical problems, the input of major package suppliers and subcontractors, to ensure engineering delivery meets scope, time, cost and quality.
  • Report and be accountable for the assigned projects overall engineering progress, budget, programme, resourcing, client satisfaction and minimisation of rework and lessons learnt and project execution improvements.
  • Lead a multi-discipline design and engineering input to an assigned project, including where relevant, leading solutions to technical problems, the input of major package suppliers and subcontractors, to ensure engineering delivery meets scope, time, cost and quality.
  • Report and be accountable for the assigned projects overall engineering progress, budget, programme, resourcing, client satisfaction and minimisation of rework and lessons learnt and project execution improvements.
  • Manages and Monitors consistency of work between multi-discipline staff in accordance with workflow co-ordination, client approvals, technical risk etc and to eliminate errors and sub-optimal work and work with Discipline Managers to rectify problems.
  • Leads communications on engineering issues with Client, 3rd Parties and Regulators either directly or via technical specialists.
  • Proactively generate value adding options (where appropriate) within projects (to offer to clients) to improve both the chance of winning work and satisfaction with completed and ongoing work.
  • Ensures that all engineering changes from the as sold position are recorded, logged and processed in conjunction with Project Services.
  • Oversees the technical management and delivery of suppliers and subcontracts to ensure cost effective and timely delivery (including input into T&C's e.g. LD's/incentivisation etc).
  • Liaison with project services, procurement, construction, and other project functions to ensure engineering is executed cost effectively supporting the needs of the whole project.
  • Generate and check engineering estimates, programmes and execution strategies to ensure on time delivery, provide optimal solutions and eliminate errors
  • Establish and maintain technical standards to support quality engineering delivery
  • Responsible for the technical closure and archiving of assigned projects including undertaking lessons learnt review.
  • Provide functional support/guidance to more junior staff to develop them as individuals and the capability of the team as a whole.
  • Support and where necessary deputise for the Project Manager.
  • Keep abreast of current technology so that technical input to projects takes account of new developments
  • Support the Director of Engineering in non-project based activities e.g. writing procedures, resource planning, establishing policy, budgeting, recruitment etc, to support the drive to continuously improve and optimise the operation of the Project Engineering Department


Qualifications:

Essential:
  • Professionally qualified (e.g. Chartered) Engineer
  • Substantial relevant experience (consistent with project value and complexity), typically at least 10 years of engineering design management/project engineering experience in multi-discipline project design work involving process, mechanical handling, piping, utility equipment, civil, CE&I and HVAC activities
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, both with colleagues and external bodies (clients, 3 rd parties, regulators, suppliers, subcontractors, etc.)
  • Team leadership capability
  • Excellent technical skills
  • Site based experience
  • Commercial awareness


Preferred:
  • Experience in a variety of contracting environments (e.g., fixed price, target cost, reimbursable, EPC, EPCm).
