Overview / Responsibilities

Geotechnical responsibilities will involve solving engineering problems of a routine nature within clearly defined procedures. With time, the position will lead to assignments with more scope and complexity. The person will work closely under supervisory direction. As required, the person will support Material Testing services which includes conducting tests on asphalt, concrete, aggregate and soil in both laboratory and field environments. This position will require occasional travel. Additional geotechnical responsibilities will include:
  • Provide high quality work that meets the client's expectations
  • Contribute to achieving high client satisfaction
  • Follow Wood's Project Review, Ethics and Safety Policies
  • Provide technical support to geotechnical investigations, geotechnical instrumentation, and geotechnical sampling, as required, including conducting geotechnical field visits/ geotechnical investigations
  • Conduct sample collection, site monitoring, and data entry
  • Conduct construction field reviews and QC/QA testing
  • Conduct engineering analysis
  • Prepare proposals, memos, letters and reports

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Ability to work with team to support a variety of Engineering projects
  • Strong workplace safety practices
  • Ability to work in the laboratory and office settings
  • Knowledge of ASTM and CSA field and laboratory test procedures for concrete, aggregate, and asphalt an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (spoken and written) skills
  • Reliable and punctual, with a desire to provide high quality work
  • Capable of multi-tasking and able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to manage deadlines
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required (+/- 25 kg)
  • Computer proficient (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a good driving record (driving abstract required)
  • CCIL certification for field and laboratory concrete, aggregate, and asphalt an asset
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification an asset
  • Basic First Aid certification an asset
