Are you interested in working with a team of Archaeologist but don't think you have the qualifications to do so? Well this may be your opportunity for you to work with a team of highly trained archaeologists who will be conducting field work at Gaspereau Lake in 2021.
The Gaspereau Main Dam refurbishment project (Lanes Mills and Muskrat Cove) is being planned by Nova Scotia Power Inc., construction will begin in 2022. Archaeology is being done ahead of construction and a team of local Mi'kmaw are being hired to help assist in the field work by Wood-Boreas Heritage Consulting Inc. Archaeologists or individuals interested in archaeology are required on this team, full and part time work is being offered, preference at this time will be given to Annapolis Valley and Glooscap First Nation community members. Transportation will be provided from Glooscap First Nation and COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place.
As a Field Tech you will be responsible for various fieldwork duties inclusive of; test pitting, pedestrian surveys and test unit excavations.
Skills / Qualifications
To be a team member you will:
- perform physically demanding tasks, such as the repetitive movement of shovelling, trowelling and screening soil/earth.
- Work outdoors for long days in rough terrain, harsh elements and at remote locations.
- Have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Work well with a team and independently when required.
- Have the ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects.
- Lift up to 40 lbs. (not necessarily required but would be helpful).
