Description

• Instructs and trains fitters to work safely and efficiently and to follow established fitting methods, practices, and procedures.

• Coordinates fitting projects with Yard Superintendent and other foremen then schedules and directs fitting crews in the performance of assigned activities.

• Maintains continuous communications with Chief Lofts man regarding fabrication methods and measurements for each project.

• Recommends improvements in fitting methods and procedures to increase safety and efficiency.

• Supervises the inspections of all applicable fitting equipment each day to ensure safety and proper working conditions. Reports and all irregularities.

• Performs other related duties as required.

• Manage and maintain the area of the yard to which designated

• Work with Project Superintendent and Operations Manager to ensure that Tasks and Goals are being achieved to support Schedule and budget

• Provide input to the Project Superintendent concerning job/material costs, manpower hours, and all other issues that may affect the job's PF

• Document completion and control, to include Progress Sheets, discipline, timesheets, charge numbers.

• Promote safety and confirm that all employees and subcontractors follow the safety requirements, to include the necessary use of PPE.

• Discipline employees for violations to Company/Departmental policy to include safety infractions and performance.

• Hold the employees accountable for the established goals and check their progress to those goals on a frequent basis

• Assist Ops Mgr. in determining manpower and manpower placement

• Inform staff of expectations and provide clear and consistent direction

• Assist in determining project physical progress and project cost projections

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Fitter Foreman must have knowledge of and used cutting torches, measuring tapes, calculators, levels, man-lifts and/or high reach equipment, welding machines, chipping hammers, pressure chippers, power grinders, etc. Must be able to read and write.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet and dry conditions; dust mud etc., Fitters may also be exposed to fumes (Paint, paint thinners, diesel, and/or gas etc.)

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Must be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen

• Must be able to pass background check.

• Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

• Must have 6 to 10 years' experience in shipyard management.

 

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

• Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

• Highschool diploma or GED.
