We currently have an opportunity for a Technology Solutions Apprentice. The successful individual will work towards achieving a Level 6 Apprenticeship qualification in either Electronic or Telecommunications engineering.

About the role:

At Jacobs, we're t ransforming intangible ideas into innovative solutions designing the future - today. As a Technology Engineering Apprentice you'll work on some of the most challenging and exciting projects in the rail, highways and aviation sectors.

This role will be responsible for supporting the development of electrical and telecoms system design. The role will include co-ordination of designs within multi-disciplinary teams. To undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within the Jobholder's ability and competence. More specifically:

Design of systems that include:
  • Signal Post Telephone (SPT) allocation
  • Point Zone Telephone (PZT) allocation
  • Copper and Optical cabling systems including jumpering schedules and splicing diagrams
  • Design of Station Information Security Systems (SISS) systems that include:
  • Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems (Analogue and Digital)
  • Public Address (PA)/Long Line Public Address (LLPA) and Voice Alarm (PAVA) Systems
  • Customer Information Systems
  • Ticket Vending machines
  • Help Points
  • Design of other Telecoms systems including
  • Wide Area Network (WAN)/Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Structured Cabling Telephone Systems (Analogue/Digital and Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP))
  • WiFi


Qualifications:

  • Achieved a grade C/4 or above in at least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English AND holds 3 A Levels (or equivalent) in any subject OR aLevel 3 qualification in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunication or Computer Engineering.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to produce well-presented and accurate drawings and reports.
  • Interest in new, digital ways of working, technologies and automation
  • Committed to work and capable of managing own tasks, costs and meeting deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team.
  • Good IT skills
