Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Mobile Controls Engineer within the Automation industry. The position is to provide complete after sales / service support to Discrete automation customers from commencement of warranty to end of service life. From 24/7 telephone support to on-site call-out engineering visits to our customers based predominantly in the Midlands and North West. Ensure that service/support is provided in accordance with business and customer expectations. Develop service support opportunities with new and existing customers.

  • Willingness and ability to be able to fault find, diagnose and resolve customer's PLC / SCADA / HMI problems on their installed automation systems
  • Understanding of client service delivery methodology and act as the first line of customer contact and the owner of customer relationships
  • Technically competent on a wide range of PLC / SCADA / HMI / Software packages
  • Ability to deliver the Discrete Service portfolio - Warranty Support, Telephone / Remote Connection Support, Preventative Maintenance Visits, Field Support, Site Surveys, Obsolescence Identification, 24/7 call-out and Training (Maintenance and Technical)
  • Good record keeping and report writing skills to ensure follow-up reports are communicated to customer and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to validate and make recommendations to project documentation and project drawings as required
  • Flexibility to support customers and when necessary attend customer sites at short notice and out of normal working hours (24/7 support on rota)
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Discrete Service Business
  • Ability to learn from existing Discrete project / service engineers to support past, current and future projects
  • Ability to deliver small automation projects (scope to be defined)
  • Provide service content to commercial quotations
  • Coordinate problem resolution with Discrete Technical and Operations functions and external OEM partner companies
  • To comply with the company policy as defined in the Staff Handbook, Safety Manual, and Quality Assurance Manual

Skills / Qualifications

  • Held a similar service role previously
  • Extensive previous use of multiple PLC platforms
  • Extensive previous use of multiple SCADA / HMI platforms
  • Wide spread experience in terms of technology
  • Wide spread experience in terms of industry
  • Controls component knowledge
  • Siemens and Rockwell PLC experience
  • Siemens and Rockwell SCADA system experience
  • Siemens and Rockwell drives and servos experience
  • Time served apprenticeship in Automation & Controls, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering and BTEC / City and Guilds or
  • HND / Degree in Automation & Controls / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • PPM (Planned Preventive Maintenance)
  • Logistics, Automotive, FMCG knowledge or background
