Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is recruiting for a Materials Laboratory Technician to join our team in our Burlington, ON office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Laboratory Testing of soils, aggregates and concrete in strict accordance with the applicable Canadian Standard Association (CSA), Canadian Council of Independent Laboratory (CCIL) and American Standard Testing Materials (ASTM) standards;
  • Obtain CCIL certification for aggregates, concrete, and hot mix asphalt;
  • Receiving and logging samples, sample logistics and scheduling and maintaining excellent organization of workload
  • Sample preparation, organization, and disposal
  • Coordination with laboratory team members and supervisors on workload, safety program, and laboratory certifications
  • Assist with calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Daily preparation of laboratory testing reports
  • Perform all duties safely and in a timely manner


Skills / Qualifications

  • Diploma in Civil Technology or Civil Engineering or equivalent;
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with OACETT;
  • Familiar with civil construction practices and relevant testing standards;
  • Materials testing and inspection experience considered an asset;
  • Experience with MTO projects/procedures considered an asset;
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel;
  • Familiar with Quality Management Systems;
  • Strong written, verbal communication and people management skills;
  • Experience in writing technical reports, business development and client relations;
  • Able to work independently in a small office / laboratory setting and liaise with local office manager and supervisors;
  • Ability to lift a maximum of 50lbs
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving experience; and
  • Available for travel out of town and willing to work overtime
