Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer, Transmission & Distribution. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position is in our Vancouver, BC office. This role has overall responsibility for leading a team as well as Transmission and or Distribution projects from conception to construction.   • Leading engineering design on 12 kV to 500 kV overhead and underground transmission and substation projects from conceptual design stage through construction, including mentoring junior engineers and designers
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with project manager and other project participants to provide assistance and technical support
  • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to lead the preparation of multi-discipline design report and commissioning documents
  • Writing and planning project scope, proposals, estimates, change notices, budgets and similar documents
  • Managing engineering costs and maintaining schedules by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems
  • Preparing project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions
  • Participating in client design and constructability review meetings, act as the main technical interface for local clients where required
  • Maintaining and enhancing relationships with internal groups and external contractors and clients
  • Traveling and visiting client sites and offices during project definition, detailed design and construction
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Checking specifications, drawings, and test reports to ensure high quality design
  • Ensuring the latest safe practices and methods are integrated into the design
  • Fulfilling the duties of Professional Record for work within field of practice
  • Coordinating installation and commissioning activities with the utility and subcontractors
  • Responding to information requests from construction and ensuring project documentation is completed.


Skills / Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with a Canadian Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng.) or the ability to register as a Professional Engineer with EGBC
  • BC Hydro experience is considered an asset
  • Experience with designing typical substation drawings such as one-line & phasing diagrams, layout plans, sections, ground grid layouts, grounding details, conduit & cable routing plans and details
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in a Transmission and Distribution Utility, EPC or EPCM organization designing transmission and distribution projects
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience managing groups of engineers, designers and drafters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • General understanding of electrical, civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines as they relate to the design of transmission and distribution projects for coordination purposes
  • Proven field experience with outage planning, construction sequencing and commissioning is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including CSA, NESC and ANSI / IEEE
