Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for Java developers to be part of the Digital and Technology team. As part of a global agile development team, the Java Developer contributes to development of existing and new applications to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Software Developer writes, debugs, executes and maintains the source code for software applications.
  • Typically works under the direction of a Lead Developer.
  • Likely to involve working closely with analysts to ensure requirements are clear and well understood, with other developers to ensure the approach and code can be integrated, and with the application software testers to support their testing plans and resolve bugs.
  • Needs to conduct their own automated tests including unit and integration to ensure their code meets both functional and non-functional requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Designs and develops new functionality and enhances existing products/solutions following core principles, practices, architectural and security standards
  • Writes well designed, high-quality, well-tested and clean code following SOLID principles
  • Actively involves and contributes in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including troubleshooting and fixing problems across multiple environments and operating platforms
  • Resolves technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation
  • Provides accurate effort estimations, supports the development of user requirements, testing plans and deployments
  • Conducts code reviews and advocates for technical excellence while being open to change when needed


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Computer Science or Software Engineering degree

Knowledge, skills and experience:
  • Commercial experience of design and development of full-stack Java web applications (JSP, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, REST API) written in Java.
  • Experience of developing web application using Spring Core, MVC and REST
  • Proven working experience with Relational Databases, SQL and ORM technologies (such as JPA, Spring Data, Hibernate)
  • Solid understanding of design patterns and Object-Oriented programming
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-solving skills
  • Comfortability with Agile methods, such as Scrum / Kanban
  • Hands-on experience of writing unit and integrations tests using a mocking framework
  • Proven track record of full life-cycle development, including requirement gathering and analysis, design, implementation, deployment, testing and maintenance with strong problem-solving skills
  • Working experience with Continuous Integration (CI)
