Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Java Support Developer to be part of the digital and technology team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on high value business systems which are used by prestigious organisations world-wide. This is a broad role involving hands-on technical support, coordinating the company technical support activities, managing the helpdesk system and interacting with external customers and internal colleagues.


  • Providing technical support for software products deployed on customer servers
  • Dealing with technical support issues and resolving them wherever possible
  • Where necessary, connecting remotely to customer systems to fault-find and resolve issues
  • Managing multiple customer SLAs
  • Where a code fix is required, liaising with the developers and testers as necessary to ensure the fix is developed, tested and confirmed as working correctly
  • Coordinating the release and deployment of patches and hot fixes to customer servers
  • Managing the company helpdesk software and associated processes
  • Suggesting improvements to software systems and processes within the company

Skills / Qualifications

  • Computer Science or Software Engineering degree

Key skills:
  • Providing customer technical support for web applications hosted on premise at customer sites
  • Supporting integrations with external 3 rd party systems utilising SOAP/XML, REST web services and database links - experience of appropriate tools to diagnose issues with these links
  • Databases including Oracle - experience of running SQL scripts to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Experience of using collaborative version control and issue tracking tools (e.g. JIRA, Mantis etc)
  • Windows servers and virtualisation platforms (Hyper-V, VMware)

Desirable skills:
  • Cloud computing platforms (Azure)
  • Working experience with Jenkins or similar CI technologies
  • Some JavaScript knowledge is desirable
  • Basic understanding of networks
