Overview / Responsibilities

Wood in Calgary is seeking to add a Mechanical Engineering Lead to our Conventional Energy team in Calgary, Alberta.

General Qualifications

This position requires an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering with Professional Engineer status or eligibility to get registered with APEGA and a minimum of 15+ years of EPCM experience in conceptual, front-end and detail engineering design of mechanical equipment on various large scale Upgrader, Refinery and Petro-Chemical projects across Canada.

Specific Requirements:

  • Experience in providing leadership through supervision, mentoring, training and motivation and coordination with the Engineering Manager to identify staffing requirements within the discipline
  • In depth knowledge preferrably in Upgrader Delayed Coker Unit and associated equipment including Coke cutting Cab, Cutting head, etc.
  • Experience in Stationary equipment (reactors/columns, pressure vessels/heat exchangers/tanks/etc.), basic understanding of HVAC, Hydraulic Power units, rotating equipment, etc.
  • Experience with the development of layouts for facilities.
  • Experience in energy and material balances, equipment sizing, hydraulic calculations, and technical reports preparations
  • Compiling RFQs c/w specifications, scopes and data sheets.
  • Selection, specification and bid evaluation of mechanical equipment.
  • Vendor document review and approval.
  • Ability to prepare mechanical calculations in accordance with the relevant Wood, Canadian and International Standards.
  • Working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the industry.
  • Ability to work in accordance with broad technical guidelines and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
  • Working knowledge with ASME, API and Canadian Codes is essential.
  • Experience in leading a team of Mechanical Package Engineers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • Experience in Scheduling and resource planning for the project mechanical discipline team.
  • Experience in coordination of engineering work and technical input across areas in a discipline and input into project wide coordination
  • Experience in coordination with other Discipline Leads to ensure a complete functional project and reports on discipline progress to the Engineering Manager
  • participation in establishing Procurement and Contracting Strategies
  • Review offers from suppliers and perform a technical bid evaluation of the materials offered
  • Make a technical assessments and recommendations when required
  • Liaise with the engineering disciplines: Piping Design, Process, Instruments, Electrical, Procurement and Material Control
  • Liaise with the Package Engineers and SMEs regarding the interpretation of the Client's specifications and standards
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in Planning and Executi on Progress

Skills / Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be registered as a Professional Engineer or be eligible to register as a P.Eng. with APEGA
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in EPCM multi-national companies
  • Canadian experience in conceptual, front-end and detail engineering on various large capital projects in oil & gas including Upgrader, Refinery, Fertilizer Plants
  • In depth knowledge preferrably in Upgrader Delayed Coker Unit and associated equipment including Coke cutting Cab, Cutting head, etc.
  • Hands-on field experience in operations and reliability / maintenance engineering, inspections and workshop repairs and turnarounds will be considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of the following codes: ASME, API and Canadian Codes is essentials
  • Detailed knowledge and proven application in all aspects of Materials
  • Keep abreast of latest technology and ability to investigate technical acceptability of new products and methods
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel
  • Must be legally able to work in Canada at time of application
