Position Specific DescriptionNextEra Energy's Power Generation Division is looking for an Engineering manager for the blade and structural fleet within the wind turbine organization in Engineering and Operations Support Services (EOSS). This engineering manager will report directly to the General Manager of the Wind organization. The individual will lead a team of multi-discipline engineers and technical specialists to ensure that the wind blade and structural fleet meets or exceeds all performance expectations. This role will interface with multiple levels of the organization, establish critical KPI's, and provide direction throughout the various Power Generation Organizations as well as other Departments within NextEra Energy.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
The Blade and Structural Fleet Engineering manager will own and be accountable for a number of key tasks
Lead the blade and structural engineering team to ensure that the fleet meets all operational targets including forced outage rate, lost revenue and total cost.
Support the Operations team by responding to fleet events in a timely manner. Equip the operations team to resolve issues where possible.
Identify systemic issues within the fleet and work with OEMs (e.g. GE Renewable, Siemens Gamesa, etc.) to conduct RCAs and identify corrective actions. Work with the operations team and the OEM to ensure successful execution of the corrective actions.
Plan and execute upgrades within the fleet to improve performance. Coach the team through business case development for each of the upgrades
Ensure that lessons learned are transferred to the Engineering and Construction team. Work with the E&C team on an ongoing basis to continuously improve our wind turbines.
Work with the Year one team to ensure successful transition of the wind turbine sites from construction to operation
Represent the wind team and present as needed to the PGD lead team
Set clear performance expectations for all team members and hold them accountable to it.
Coach and grow team member skills to ensure a good succession plan.
Coordinated development and approval of work plans, schedules, project timelines, status reports, and KPI's for the Major Component strategies
Conducts meetings with major stakeholders, reporting on project tracking and analysis
Secures and directs required resources and uses formal processes to report out on the execution of the Wind Major Component strategy budgets, risks, and changes
Provides expert information to internal and external clients on complex issues and progress on the wind blade and structural strategies
Other responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
Address information requests that come in from leadership and other teams in a timely manner.
Propose and lead initiatives as needed to improve the state of the fleet.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters in Engineering
- Six sigma green belt certified
- Five years experience in the wind turbine field
- Two years leadership/supervisory experience
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
