Engie Generation North America is responsible for operating and maintaining the utility infrastructure that supplies the University of Iowa (UI) Campuses and Hospital with steam, electricity, water, and chilled water, as well as maintaining sanitary and storm sewers. The Environmental Compliance Student employee will work to support environmental compliance programs for the UI/ENGIE utility systems, and will collaborate with numerous ENGIE staff, including management, engineers, technicians and other student employees, and will participate in regular environmental meetings. Through this position, the student employee will learn about power plant operations, water treatment plant operations, chilled water plant operations, data collection methods and analysis, and environmental compliance requirements that utility operations face.

What you'll do:
  • Generate required reports to the Iowa DNR, confirming adherence to government-regulated pollution guidelines
  • Collect, file and manage laboratory results
  • Assist with continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS) data input
  • Environmental compliance record tracking
  • Assist with compliance inspections
  • Assist in the development of programs/processes for environmental compliance record tracking
  • Assist in the development of a UI utility-wide environmental management system (EMS)
  • Identify and prevent environmental compliance violations
  • Maintain and update chemical inventories and safety data sheets (SDS)

What you bring:
  • Student must be enrolled at the University of Iowa
  • Environmental Science, or Engineering majors are desirable but not required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future sponsorship for employment visa status
