Jacobs' are looking to recruit a Technical Specialist to join their team in Birchwood.

The Regulatory Support Directorate (RSD) provides technical, safety and security support to our nuclear regulatory customers. The RSD Technical Specialist (NWR) is responsible for the provision of advice and support to the DNSR Inspector on all regulatory and technical matters relevant to the NW in Life Cycle Phases 3 and 4, together with nuclear safety case advice in other related areas.

Role Responsibilities

  • Perform nuclear regulatory consultancy as a nuclear regulatory expert with acknowledged deep technical expertise for nuclear plant/facilities having high safety significance in order to meet on-going project, customer and business needs.
  • Manage own work to deliver RSD advice to DNSR on NWR technical, safety and security matters in support of the Technical Lead.
  • Maintain a robust and regular interface with the Project and Technical Leads to ensure the coordination of RSD regulatory support activities meets customer requirements.
  • Facilitate the exchange of information and relevant good practice across the RSD organisation to ensure consistency of approach and understanding of project issues.
  • Identify, monitor and manage regulatory, technical, safety and security issues, including incidents, arising from the design, build, testing, operation, maintenance and modification of nuclear weapon technologies, sites, facilities and safety cases, reporting to RSD and customers as appropriate, with particular consideration of through life safety implications.
  • Advise DNSR on the adequacy and completeness of relevant through life safety justifications.
  • Support the development of regulatory policy and guidance in the area of NWR.
  • Act in accordance with the parent company values and behaviours.
  • Act as RSD Technical Specialist for areas assigned (NWR) Populate and maintain the RSD Knowledge Hub for areas assigned. Role may include responsibilities as manager/mentor/coach, Responsible for outcomes in own technical and project area.


Qualifications:

Experience

  • Expert knowledge of nuclear weapon technologies, sites and facilities
  • Ideally significant experience in the nuclear industry
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrable application of national and international civil and defence nuclear regulation and relevant good practice, including industry context.
  • Expert knowledge and demonstrable application of safety case methodologies, for example via safety case development or assessment.
  • Detailed appreciation of the role and responsibilities of DNSR.
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal means.
  • Develop effective relationships with those at all levels of the business and external organisations.
  • Honours Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical subject.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Commitment to successful completion of training courses as required by the RSD Competency Framework.
