  • The role holder will have knowledge and expertise on all aspects of designing IP networks.
  • To verify end to end network solutions, compliant with Authority and industry Standards, through-life design, capable of onward implementation and support by the company.
  • He will be required to proactively identify potential problems, recommend resolution paths and implement solutions during delivery.
  • To provide technical subject matter expertise in IP networks, Cisco products and fibre optic networks.
  • Ensure subcontractors adhere to established contractual obligations and company process and procedures (Design Review, Configuration Control, Test, Acceptance and Artefacts).
  • Work closely with other business functions as part of project delivery (Customer, Project Delivery and Managed Services).
  • To verify Installation Designs and active BoQs as appropriate in support of project objectives.
  • Perform active design assurance with appropriate support from individual suitably qualified SME's where required.

  • Review active installation designs, to ensure they adhere to the standards and design intent.
  • Ensure that designs align with IPND low-level design, inter-site connectivity, nationwide fibre and Garrison Area Network fibre utilization designs and plans.
  • To review method statements, proposals, risk assessments as appropriate.
  • Ensure all design documentation meets the Authority standards and covers the agreed artefacts list for each delivery stage.
  • Review subcontractor submitted network and active proposals for design, installation and testing.
  • Performs acceptance testing of all active aspects of a site and ensures that standards are met.
  • Must be results orientated, proactive team player who is also capable of working on their own initiative.
  • Must be customer and quality-focused.
  • Monitor, analyze and improve subcontractor deliverables.
  • Make a frequent visit to sites for quality assurance purpose.
  • Assist in the organization, recording and handover of project inventory of all hardware and software resources.
  • Creates and maintains good technical documentation


Qualifications:

  • HNC/HND/Bachelors Degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline plus industry certification such as Cisco CCDP and CCNP (Routing and Switching) as a minimum.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in network systems installation and design.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of the following disciplines
  • IP Routing & Switching
  • IP Voice
  • IP MPLS
  • Experience of medium to large router and distributed switch network.
  • Experience in medium to large IP addressing and subnetting schemes.
  • In-depth knowledge of primary routing protocols (TCP/IP, RIP, OSPF, EIGRP etc.)
  • Understanding of BGP, Cisco call manager.
  • MPLS experience (MPLS VPN) and QoS knowledge is an added value.
  • Understanding of QoS in relation to IP networks and VOIP.
  • Advanced HW & SW troubleshooting skills.
  • Must possess good English verbal and writing skills.
  • Must possess a valid driving license from the country of origin.
  • Good understanding of telecommunications Test and Acceptance procedures and associated documentation.
  • Proven track record in a similar role, working to tight timescales on large multi-element projects, and be able to demonstrate:
  • Experience understanding design principles for large fibre and IP deployments.
  • Project Lifecycle experience including test, evaluation and acceptance.
  • Good understanding of network transmission technologies.
  • Good knowledge of equipment installation in cabinets, heat dissipation, fixtures and fittings.
  • Understanding of Network Management and network discovery.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Competent Microsoft Visio and Office.
