We have an exciting permanent opportunity for an experienced Lead Engineer to drive and shape Hydrasun's movement into Hydrogen and Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) projects.

Hydrogen and CCUS engineering capability is an integral strategic initiative within the Hydrasun business and this role will focus primarily on the management of Hydrogen projects from project development through concept selection, engineering, tendering, construction and commissioning. In parallel to Hydrogen, this role will also oversee the engineering management of Hydraulic and Instrumentation engineered projects already carried out within the Hydrasun portfolio.

As the Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and executing Hydrogen and CCUS projects with a focus on design, build, installation and commissioning of mechanical, instrumentation and electrical packages.

Whilst it is preferred that candidates be Central Scotland-based, we may also consider candidates across all UK locations.

We are keen to speak with candidates who possess:

  • An Engineering degree (BSc, BEng or equivalent) - most likely within Mechanical or Chemical disciplines
  • Experience in hydrogen technology, product engineering, capital project engineering, project development engineering and CI capabilities
  • Credible experience in Engineering Management and experience of development & innovation within niche or emerging markets
  • Experience working in an engineering environment with design experience in a relevant area
  • Experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • A strong combination of commercial acumen and product engineering innovation skills

Duties will include but not be limited to:

Technical Duties

  • Develop and implement engineering process and procedures in relation to Hydrogen and CCUS projects and the Hydrasun product range.
  • Complete functional engineering requirements to support product development from product strategy through conceptual design to commercialisation.
  • To actively pursue the development of new product ranges from conceptual design to manufacture for the Hydrogen and CCUS markets
  • To carry out technical & design engineering activities in support of the business.
  • To produce economic engineered solutions, considering all aspects from materials to manufacturability, that maximises profitably for Hydrasun whilst satisfying all customer and internal requirements
  • To liaise with customers to establish, through negotiation where appropriate, and confirm precise Engineering requirements
  • To liaise with other departments to ensure clarity of understanding of all customer/project requirements
  • To ensure full compliance, during all engineering and related activities, with regard to sound engineering practice and adherence to relevant internal and external procedures, guidelines and standards
  • To ensure development and improvement of existing products and services, where possible
  • To liaise with suppliers on technical and engineering matters
  • To ensure knowledge of industry developments is kept up to date
  • To ensure activities within the engineering team meet agreed target completion dates


  • To be responsible for knowing and understanding the Engineering Department's targets and objectives
  • Assist with auditing of examiners, including site visits, and statutory report auditing.
  • To carry out all the relevant administrative duties including helping with management reports and audits.
  • To keep any filing/admin/databases up to date
  • To Adopt a "no surprises rule" and to ensure delivery against agreed objectives and targets

Continuous Improvement/Personal Development

  • Development of Hydrogen and CCUS market engineering and product requirements
  • To compile development plans for the Engineering team to future proof the engineering team capabilities
  • To be responsible for understanding, agreeing and achieving personal objectives set by the Regional Director.
  • To adhere to the procedures as laid down by the HSE Management System and Quality Management System.
  • To adhere to the procedures as laid down by the Human Resource Management System and to take an active part in the Performance Management Process and the Competence and Training Programme.
  • To attend formal Team Briefings when requested in your own time.
  • To be a team member and actively promote communication and information sharing.
