About the opportunity:

Our Ground Engineering and Tunnelling team provides technical support to a wide range of infrastructure projects throughout the UK, and worldwide. Tunnel ventilation and fire life safety (FLS) is a key discipline within the tunnels team and the competencies within it allow us to offer the full range of tunnelling discipline capabilities. It is also a multi-sector discipline with cross-sell activities into the Transportation, Cities and Places and Nuclear sectors.

Reporting into the Head of Discipline for Tunnels, the Head of Tunnel Ventilation and Fire Life Safety role is primarily about bringing technical expertise and oversight to allow increased growth and to develop the skills of the existing team. The candidate would also be expected to take on Project Managerial responsibility for self-delivered projects in their domain and discipline lead responsibility on larger multi-disciplinary projects.

Business development is also a significant part of the role, both as part of a wider sales team but also as part of an external profile-raising campaign out in the industry.

The successful applicant will be based in the UK.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would:
  • Have a first degree in a relevant discipline. A MSc or second degree would be preferrable
  • Be a fully chartered Fire Engineer
  • Be an established figure in the tunnel FLS industry and already the leader of or in the succession plan for a similar group.
  • Be well known by key clients in the highways and rail/metro sectors.
  • Serve on a PIARC committee or similar or be involved in the UK Road Tunnel Operators Forum. Similar standing in the nuclear fire safety sector would be a good alternative profile.
  • Be experience in writing technical papers and believe in the encouragement of junior staff to do the same.
