Your Impact:

Jacobs has a number of clients in its Decommissioning business including Sellafield, AWE, Dounreay and Magnox through a number of different contracts.

We are looking to adopt high value experience from across comparable highly complex regulated sectors in order to transform project delivery across our portfolio. Jacobs provide the front-end design and engineering capability and services required to deliver projects, asset management and business wide project delivery improvements. In addition to our core engineering we are accelerating ours and our customer's digital transformations and seek creative and innovative individuals to help us on this journey, we want you to be part of this team.

Being part of the Decomm business offers a unique opportunity to be part of a team driving change and innovation in design and execution of engineering, safety and delivery solutions across a multitude of sites and global geographies.

As a result of increasing demand for our services, there are significant opportunities for you, as a Senior Mechanical Designer to support across a portfolio of work within the nuclear business.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of development type work producing cutting edge mechanical equipment and testing rigs underpinning new technology and providing an excellent service to our customers. Additionally the successful candidate will have a passion for all things digital and be keen to drive change in the nuclear sector.

  • Production of computer aided design drawings from concept level through to manufacturing detail, meeting relevant standards and our own expected high engineering standards and specifications
  • Ensuring design deliverables meet required standards of accuracy and quality, that all drawings are appropriately verified and performing verification of colleagues' drawings
  • Working as part of a team with multi-disciplinary engineers and scientists - mechanical, electrical/C&I etc.
  • Supporting other related activities across the Nuclear business including liaising with project management and directly with customers.
  • Support the development & deployment of new technologies to support the whole asset lifecycle


Here's What You'll Need:
  • HNC/HND in a relevant engineering subject and/ or demonstrable design experience
  • Computer literate, including competent in the use of Excel for calculations
  • Knowledge of the principles of engineering drawing to support manufacturing requirements
  • Experience in designing mechanical components and systems
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, remote operations in a nuclear environment or mechanical handling preferred
  • Experienced in AVEVA, AutoDesk AutoCAD and AutoDesk Inventor 2D/3D design software
  • Ability to work accurately, flexibly and to integrate own work with other discipline areas, whilst working to tight programme and budget constraints
  • Have a high awareness of personal safety
  • Experience of generating and modifying VR scenes to support engineering design
