Responsible for the oversight of the safe operational and commercial performance of the UK & Ireland Region's projects within the Infrastructure GBU.

  • Provides direction to UK & Ireland project managers/directors of Projects.

C. Contacts
  • Develops and maintains appropriate customer relationships in client organisations in support of project safety, operational and commercial goals.
  • Develops and maintains internal networks and good working relationships with appropriate ES&H, functional, human resource and financial/commercial colleagues.
  • Liaises regularly with operations/commercial managers in other Infrastructure GBU regions to optimize project performance and talent development.
  • Liaises regularly with operations/commercial managers in other GBU's within UK and Ireland region to optimize project performance and talent development.

Essential Job Duties

Provides management guidance and monitors the performance of projects in the UK & Ireland Region. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing ESH and Quality performance on projects
  • Overseeing engineering, procurement, construction and commercial / contractual activities on projects.
  • Making recommendations to appoint key project personnel (subject to client approval where required), including default use of MyOpportunities, reviewing and approving other senior project staff appointments; and leading / supporting the overall staffing effort in conjunction with functional groups. Leading resolution of staffing resource demand conflicts between projects as needed.
  • Reviewing and approving project baselines including execution plans, cost estimates, budgets and schedules.
  • Completion of project progress and performance reviews in conjunction with Functions
  • Provides direction, administrative guidance and services to area project offices and all organization operations in the area.
  • Directs project managers to ensure that projects are properly serviced and that all project communications are promptly handled.
  • Supports the business development effort by proactively advising the Regional Marketing & Business Development Manager of opportunities to extend existing scope or new prospect opportunities with the current customers; negotiating with prospective clients and providing operational and commercial expertise during the proposal review stage.
  • Reviews and approves contractual commitments on current and new projects in conjunction with Legal and Functions.
  • Undertaking, with HR and the Functions, a regular assessment of Talent within the Region and supporting their development through stretch assignments. This to include support of the D&I working group initiatives and the development of a fair work environment for all employees.
  • Working with the Projects and GBU Management Information to provide regular aggregated financial and commercial information to Regional Management, including (but not limited to) PFSRs (and strategies to maximise annual work off in the Operating Plan). This to include project performance evaluations in maximizing KPI incentive recoveries.
  • Supports management of the prime contract across projects and provides guidance on customer negotiation strategies - including assessment of project commercial / claims positions, Change Management systems and the implementation of commercial awareness training on projects.
  • Encourages business development and project colleagues to capture forecasted staffing needs through corporate systems (Dynamics/SmartStaff) to provide short/medium/long term visibility of resourcing needs.
  • Ensures projects engage with and participate in appropriate regional, GBU and/or enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Personally assists and advises other groups and division operations as requested.

Job Knowledge:

Thorough knowledge of commercial and operational management, including core elements of construction, engineering, procurement and other project related activities, their interfaces and interdependencies. Broad general experience and education; rotation through and exposure to several departments.
