Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has an immediate term employment opportunity for an Engagement Tracking Specialist in Calgary, AB. The successful candidate will join our Human Environment team working on a broad range of projects in western and northern Canada across sectors including resource development, infrastructure, municipalities, and water resources. The contract term will be for one (1) year with options for extensions and/or permanent employment.

The successful candidate will work within the Human Environment Group under the supervision of the lead Engagement Tracking Specialist. Primary responsibilities will be to enter, manage, and report on engagement activities undertaken by our clients as directed by the lead Engagement Tracking Specialist.

Wood uses its proprietary Stakeholder and Issues Information Management System (SIIMS) to record engagement interactions among Wood, our clients, and Indigenous groups and stakeholders. The Engagement Tracking Specialist responsibilities will include:

 

  • Accurately entering information regarding records of contact or other communications into SIIMS or third-party stakeholder tracking systems
  • Identifying issues and concerns within written records and thematically coding each record
  • Identifying and tracking action items for contacts with Indigenous groups and stakeholders
  • Writing summaries of individual engagement activities and project engagement programs
  • Producing standard and ad hoc reports regarding engagement activities and concerns for clients, regulators and other project team members
  • Writing proposals regarding engagement tracking services

 


Wood provides engagement planning and conducts engagement activities for our clients, in both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, in line with the principles of the International Association of Public Participation. Based on the experience and interest of the successful candidate, there will be opportunities to participate in engagement activities and in assist our socio-economic specialists in data collection. This aspect of the position may include:

 

 

  • Planning and organizing engagement activities
  • Note-taking at engagement or stakeholder interview meetings and events
  • Preparing engagement / consultation plans for clients or for submission to regulators
  • Facilitating engagement events such as presentations or open houses
  • Travel to project areas and work outside office hours for engagement events

 


Skills / Qualifications

The position requires that the successful candidate has a solid technical and/or academic background. Key requirements include:

 

 

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma, or strong relevant experience in public engagement and/or communications and report writing
  • Dedication to accuracy, quality, and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills
  • Ability to synthesize and summarize technical data in plain language
  • Strong skills in standard office software; skill with databases is an asset
  • Experience in planning, providing, and recording engagement services is an asset
  • Experience in contributing to environmental impact assessments an advantage
  • Ability to manage workloads from multiple project managers and across multiple projects


Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

 

 

  • 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience in stakeholder and Indigenous engagement and engagement tracking
  • Experience with project engagement to support regulatory requirements and/or project planning
