PURPOSE AND ROLE:

This is an advanced engineering opportunity position for future company advancement which requires providing the organization with technical expertise on all aspects of process design and processing techniques used by the refinery to ensure the following:

 

  • Safe, environmentally conscious, and reliable operation of process units

  • Continuous improvement to improve efficiency and enhance profitability in the operational processes

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

  • Provides multiple unit engineering support for the operating area to achieve operational goals of process safety, HSE compliance, consistent and high product quality, efficiency improvement, unit cost reduction in the production of intermediate and finished products

  • Performs advanced engineering calculations (i.e., mass balances, energy balances, conversion calculations) to optimize equipment and ensure product quality

  • Gathers, analyzes, and interprets unit test data to assist in troubleshooting operating problems and developing revised process designs

  • Generates and maintains an informational database on pertinent process variables for troubleshooting and optimization

  • Makes recommendations to improve unit yield and/or optimize energy consumption

  • Develops, tracks and monitors process unit KPIs

  • Analyzes data for process units to ensure overall plant performance measures are met

  • Initiates and justifies new projects, additional monitoring, and improvements to the unit

  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields as part of optimizing process units

  • Requires the use of advanced techniques, modification and extension of theories and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines

  • Demonstrates proficiency in simulation software for process modeling to evaluate overall unit and equipment performance

  • Uses simulation software for process modeling to evaluate overall unit and equipment performance

  • Drive resolution of the site PSM program tasks by working with other functions to ensure compliance and implement improvements

  • Develops and maintains unit operating Process Safety Information

  • Initiates and reviews Management Of Change (MOC) for unit operation

  • Develops and improves unit Operating Procedures, Training materials and Operating Limits

  • Maintains Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Process Schematics, Block Diagrams, etc.

  • Participates in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews, addressing action items requiring process engineering support

  • Monitors and optimizes catalyst operating conditions to maximize useful life, rate, cost and yield performance

  • Consults with manager concerning unusual problems and developments including development of design changes. Utilizing Management of Change processes

  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for a variety of projects within his/her responsibility area

  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment

  • Maintains awareness of all Safety, Health and Environmental issues that impact the refinery unit design and personnel

  • Evaluates the economic feasibility of projects assigned and provides Process Engineering services during engineering, construction, and start-up of projects

  • May provide Process Engineering support during turnarounds

  • Provides technical support to operations during abnormal modes of operation

  • Develops capital project scopes

  • Other duties as assigned


ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES:

 

  • Effective communications skills including verbal, report writing, business correspondence, and procedures and policies development and modification

  • Proficient user of MS Office Suite

  • Demonstrates effective leadership and team skills

  • Able and willing to work with individuals at all levels of the organization

  • Can multitask and handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Willingness to spend time in the field

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field

  • 7 or more years of experience in petroleum refinery process engineering, operations, and maintenance positions

PREFERENCES:

 

  • 10 or more years of experience in petroleum refinery process engineering, operations, and maintenance positions

  • Experience in lube operations

  • Expertise including crude distillation, hydrogen generation, hydrotreating, amines unit, sulfur recovery unit, utilities, etc.

  • Base oil manufacturing experience
