Position Description

The Public Health Analyst -Industrial Hygienist will work within the Environmental Public Health (EPH) division to research, develop, and implement strategies related to the safety risks and hazards in addition to evaluating and documenting potential exposures to biological, chemical and physical hazards related to Harris County's industrial facilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the subject matter expert regarding industrial facilities' health and safety risks
  • Conducts research and performs analysis using federal, state, and local health data to make informed recommendations for Harris County authorities
  • Documents hazardous patterns and tracks safety performance within the region that lead to sicknesses and impaired health
  • Participates in partnership groups and outreach that furthers industrial health education and the reduction of industrial risk factors and hazards
  • Reports violations, writes reports, and verifies compliance in accordance with applicable state rules and regulations when necessary
  • Utilizes proper protective tools and equipment when conducting assessments in the field
  • Researches and adheres to all rules and regulations for industrial facilities put in place by county, state, and federal authorities
  • Communicates all regulations, rules, and other necessary information appropriately to leadership as well as public inquiries
  • Gathers evidence for court action as required and prepares or performs testimony in court cases
  • Creates and delivers presentations and reports for Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and for public and private stakeholders
  • Operates county vehicles in a safe and legal manner
  • Performs other duties and or projects as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Exposure Health, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, or related Health or Science field from an accredited college or university; and
  • One (1) year of experience working in the field of industrial hygiene, specifically in industrial facilities or refineries
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Basic skill level with any statistical software and databases

Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to distinguish chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological hazards.
  • Ability to conduct industrial hygiene needs analysis.
  • Basic skill level with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic skill level with computers, tablets, and mobile devices
  • Valid Driver's License (TX upon hire).
