About the opportunity:

We currently have an opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to join our Cardiff Ground Engineering team. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your sound technical skills whilst working in an engaging and collaborative team. You will provide technical support, mentoring and advice for the Ground Engineering team, while delivering solutions for numerous clients. As a result, we're looking for people who have the passion and drive to be involved with major geotechnical projects across a range of sectors, including transport infrastructure, buildings, nuclear and water utilities. You will be expected to keep developing your skills and explore all that you can do across our global company, with opportunities to share your knowledge along the way.

As a Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist, you will work as part of a team providing support and advice on ground risk management to the wider Jacobs business and clients. You will lead or assist in the delivery of ground engineering input to projects. You will also be required to provide technical guidance and support to less experienced junior engineers and technicians.

There will be opportunities for a wider degree of responsibilities and roles within the Ground Engineering team aimed at developing your career as a ground engineering specialist.

Qualifications:

  • MEng degree in Civil Engineering, or a Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or other related geoscience degree with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geophysics
  • Chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Geological Society of London or approaching chartered status soon
  • Experience of ground investigation design and interpretation
  • Experience of slope stability assessment, earthworks, foundation and retaining wall design to current European standards
  • The successful applicant must have strong technical design skills with working knowledge of geotechnical software such as SlopeW, Settle3D, OpenGround and pile design packages etc
  • Ability to undertake and complete packages of work to agreed budgets and programmes
  • Can effectively communicate with clients, colleagues and outside agencies and build effective working relationships, and is always aiming to exceeding client expectations
  • Ability to produce accurate and well-presented studies, calculations and reports
  • Flexibility to travel for work
