Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Commissioning is looking for Senior Commissioning Engineers with significant experience of naval/nuclear submarines for 6 month contract opportunities in the South West of England

The purpose of these role are to:
  • Test facilities, equipment & plant associated with Submarines
  • Bring product or system to a point where it functions correctly, produces expected results for quality, safety, specification and performance, can be used effectively and is approved for 'hand over' or return to production or operations for ongoing effective use as designed and specified
  • Carry out testing and commissioning work covering a range of plant and equipment and systems


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Coach and mentor more junior or less experienced staff, ensure that they understand the systems and protocols associated with the work and task; ensure that their work is reviewed and providing a checking and verification service for work of other commissioning engineers
  • Ensure the safe testing and commissioning of plant, equipment and installations to verify performance in accordance with project & programme requirements, technical and user specifications specified commissioning requirements and procedures
  • Identify problems and shortcomings with existing plant, equipment & systems
  • Document, provide advice, guidance and report shortcomings to line management or stakeholders
  • Investigate / diagnose / research problems and issues; gather information from a range of physical & informational sources; review defects to gain a complete understanding of problems and relevant circumstances
  • Analyse problems related to plant and support system issues; generate and submit solutions complete with all documentation; seek appropriate signatures and approvals as required
  • Monitor progress, record test results, witness final testing and acceptance of equipment consistent with design, performance, safety, quality and technical specifications
  • Collate, compile and format all technical and operational documentation for inclusion in the test dossier and for hand over to customer or stakeholders


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Min HNC (or equivalent) in suitable Engineering subject
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering related background an advantage
  • Valid SC Clearance essential
  • IT Literate (Excel / Word / PowerPoint etc)
  • Task Risk Management Trained Person
  • Conversant with Project Management Systems

Experience:
  • Proven track record installing, commissioning, fault finding and enhancing performance for a wide range of common and complex problems or well-understood technical situations, problems and issues related to Submarines
  • Requires a depth of technical knowledge gained through formal education and significant experience of processes and systems
  • Ability to work with a degree of technical autonomy under limited technical supervision
