Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Group Lead based in our Boston, MA office with the flexibility to work remotely in the following states Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, but will be required to travel to the office to manage their team as needed. The lead will be accountable for providing leadership, guidance and operational oversight to Environmental Sciences Group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Service Line in alignment with Operational goals, strategies, policies and initiatives for both commercial/federal support and other related environmental projects in support of site assessment and commercial clientele
  • Develop and manage proposal efforts, business strategies, and lead in contract negotiations including but not limited to terms & conditions, scope, and budget
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to staff; ensure ongoing performance feedback, support development and growth, address performance and behavioral issues as necessary
  • Responsible for driving accountability in quality standards; utilize tools, training, and challenge team for excellence in quality of work product
  • Ensure Project Managers within given Service Line are supported, held accountable and successfully maintain PM status as outlined by Internal PM Program standards
  • Create a 'team' and collaborative culture through demonstrating open communication, developing trust, and recognizing staff and providing ongoing construction feedback
  • Maintain high-value relationships with clients in the market; demonstrate excellence in client service/experience
  • Oversee day to day workload management (manage utilization and non-chargeable time) of all staff within the Team
  • Work effectively with project managers, key technical specialists, and the marketing team as a key leader to deliver quality projects to our clients
  • Lead select projects within his/her technical area of expertise
  • Manage environmental projects, site characterization, remedial designs, and preparation of reports and other related documentation
  • Network with clients to effectively position for and develop work opportunities
  • Prepare contract proposals and cost estimates
  • Manage project contracts, staff, budgets and schedules
  • Manage clients and associated project work with the support of key staff in accordance with state and Federal regulations and protocols
  • Perform, analyze and report on specific environmental project tasks; research and recommend solutions to technical problems in accordance with accepted scientific/engineering practices and principles
  • Participation and collaboration with other Wood offices and staff on larger, multidisciplinary assignments

Skills / Qualifications



  • B.S. or M.S. graduate, with directly related degree in engineering, geology, or environmental sciences
  • Experience across a range of commercial, industrial, and federal sectors
  • 15-20 years relevant experience with increasing levels of project complexity and management responsibility
  • 15+ effectively develop project work and manage, implement and oversee sites assessments, risk assessments (human health & eco-risk), chemistry, GIS/database, environmental fieldwork, and statistical analysis
  • Track record of performance in a seller-doer culture (business development/client management)
  • Must have an entrepreneurial spirit, leadership skills, and a proven ability to develop and lead strategies in line with the office and company goals
  • Must have client relationships and a proven track record of developing business, growing client accounts, and winning work
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in State regulations and processes
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a, LSP, P.Eng., or P.Geo preferred
  • An individual with strong written and oral communication skills, strong desire to provide excellent, innovative, practical customer services and a commitment to technical excellence
  • Must be well organized, have the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time, deliver on time and on budget
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team for field contract services and hands-on training of personnel, support proposal efforts and able to work on projects with variable complexity
