Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Transmission and Distribution (T&D) are recruiting for a Lead Civil Engineer, to provide Civil and Structural Engineering support to the T&D Engineering Team.

This is a permanent staff role based and whist we are flexible on location, you will be required to visit our offices in either Leicester or Horsham as well as the different sites across the UK..

Purpose of the Role
  • Deliver civil engineering and temporary works design on discrete schemes or tasks across a number of projects
  • Take ownership and manage overall task design delivery and construction support on civils related activities
  • Lead engineers to deliver tasks
  • Provide technical authority and assurance on civils related activities
  • Provide technical support and input for tendering
  • Development of skills and knowledge, and support others, in line with business needs
  • Support development of systems, techniques and technologies to enhance our efficiency, quality and innovation


Accountable for Deliverables and tasks below:
  • Manage, coordinate and contribute to delivery of tasks against the programme and budget, reporting and forecasting progress
  • Ensure delivery of tasks in accordance with Wood, industry and client standards and specifications
  • Scheme level management of time, cost and resource
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Principal Discipline Engineers and Site Operatives
  • Liaison with Client on design issues
  • Checking, approval and assurance of design deliverables
  • Preparation and submission of project engineering reports
  • The review, appraisal and input into method statements and risk assessment and any supporting construction design
  • studies
  • Identification and development of personal engineering competence and where appropriate the development of others in the team
  • Having the obligation and authority to deliver results (i.e. being liable for agreed results to be achieved, the power to enable it, the obligation to achieve in accordance with the agreed standards.)
  • Process, policy and change control in accordance with company, team and project management procedures and contractual obligations
  • Design delivery progress and reporting
  • The quality control of ALL design submissions for your schemes
  • Communication of residual risks and designed mitigations to the project stakeholders


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Minimum HNC or Degree - Civil / Structural Engineering


Experience:

Essential:
  • Demonstrable experience experience in a T&D engineering environment including significant scheme and team leadership and proven track record of engineering delivery
  • Knowledge of T&D and related engineering specifications and standards, BSI, ENA
  • Use of engineering, CAD, Structural Calculation and general document production software
  • Experience with industry specific and general engineering and document production office software
  • HSSE competency Construction & Engineering
  • Experience with all aspects of engineering substation deliverable production
  • Experience with Multi-discipline engineering
  • Good working knowledge of CDM Regulations
  • Quality Assurance competent
  • Familiar with project controls
  • Familiar with latest industry standards
  • Experience with managing design resources/costs and deliverable output
  • Ability to perform Risk Assessments and develop mitigation strategies


Desirable:
  • Familiar with AIS/GIS switchgear and major electrical plant equipment: Transformers, Reactors etc
  • Significant experience working in construction/commissioning
  • Use of Projectwise software
  • T&D Experience
  • Autodesk Revit experience
