Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter, to be based at Birchwood Park, Warrington. The vacancy is to support our Materials Science & Structural Integrity laboratories, which feature equipment operating at high temperatures and pressures. These facilities deliver a diverse range of services, mostly in support of the nuclear industry and associated markets.

Responsibilities of the role include:
• Providing a wide range of practical mechanical support and pipefitting, including high pressure pipework (Swagelock)
• Working safely, in accordance with risk assessments and permit to work systems
• Providing on-demand service to project and laboratory managers, ranging from maintaining, fault finding and repairing existing plant and equipment, to manufacturing components and specimens, and building new test rigs
• Ensuring your work complies with project documentation
• Completion of tasks to time, cost and quality to meet both internal and external customer requirements
• Provide advice on technical, safety and operational aspects based on knowledge of plant and equipment, including pressure systems and test rigs with moving parts
• Safety should always be the first priority for any tasks undertaken.

Due to the nature of the work being undertaken, security clearance will be required prior to commencement of employment.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have the following:
• Time-served apprenticeship (or equivalent experience) completed in a relevant discipline
• A strong commitment to safety
• Experience in fabricating, installing and modifying high pressure pipework. Swagelock training and experience would be highly beneficial.
• Competence in the use of a wide range of tools, which may periodically involve use of a lathe and welding equipment
• Experience of working in accordance with risk assessments and undertaking point of work risk assessments.
• Experience of working with permit to work systems
• Experience of hands-on mechanical fitting is essential, and applicants must have excellent practical skills and experience
• Problem solving skills and a positive, proactive and enthusiastic approach to delivering to tight deadlines
• Ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team
• Ability to identify, assess and address potential safety hazards associated with duties
• A willingness to question other members of the team and lab staff to learn more about laboratory operations and tasks
• Possession of current lifting, rigging and fork lift truck driving certificates is not essential but is desirable
• HNC qualification is beneficial but not essential

Candidates with a variety of levels of experience will be considered and training will be provided as appropriate.
