PRODUCTION/A OPERATOR/LEAD OPERATOR: OVERVIEW:

Reports directly to the Lead Production Operator or Production Foreman but may work in a group of one or more operators where the main responsibilities are coordinated by the Lead Operator. Understanding the assigned field producing systems, the mechanical processes of operating equipment, the state and federal regulatory requirements and the standard operating procedures are essential for this position. Individual must be able to work under minimal supervision, identify tasks and independently initiate work. Must be knowledgeable of operating procedures and be able to troubleshoot production-related problems/issues.

A OPERATOR TASKS:

  • Open & close wells
  • Operate a variety of surface production equipment, compressors, pumps, generators, PLC and pneumatic control panels
  • Monitor, operate and maintain well(s) and equipment in a safe and environmentally positive manner
  • Perform well tests, flowbacks, take shakeouts, and change orifice plates
  • Perform testing & inspection of safety systems & equipment as required by law and customer policy
  • Make rounds to ensure that all process equipment is in good operating condition
  • Monitor meters, pressure gauges, rates, variations, temperatures, and pressures to ensure proper operation while maximizing production
  • Record instrument readings and operational changes in operating logs
  • Collect, record, and maintain data to fulfill State, Federal and company requirements
  • Assist in completing all required paperwork
  • Take samples of gases and liquids
  • Conduct chemical tests to determine the correct chemical treatment, set chemical rates, make repairs to pumps, and send samples to laboratories for analysis when needed
  • Respond to problems by adjusting control room equipment, and/or follow the instructions from the supervisor while using good judgement and good communication
  • Assist routine well servicing operations and minor maintenance/construction projects
  • Clean, lubricate, maintain, and adjust equipment
  • Maintain parts and tool inventory
  • Actively participate in the Safety Management Systems, Safety Meetings, job planning, JSA development, job permitting, emergency drills, and training according to company and customer requirements
  • Promote and conduct good housekeeping in all areas of the facility
  • Perform all duties in manner consistent with environmental, health and safety policies
  • Attend all safety meetings and emergency drills as required
  • Other various duties as assigned by supervisor

 

ADDITIONAL LEAD OPERATOR TASKS

  • Maintain records of the amounts of product sold and bought to/from pipelines
  • Complete all required paperwork
  • Supervise all work crews to ensure the tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner
  • Analyze repetitive occurrences and provide technical solutions in order to improve run time and reduce cost
  • Take part in pre job planning for large projects to aid in making projects more efficient
  • Conduct all safety meetings and emergency drills as required
  • Other various duties as assigned by supervisor

 

A OPERATOR REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Understand Process Flow Diagrams, Safe Charts, EPA, NPDES, and BOEM/BSEE requirements in addition to API RP T-2 Requirements
  • Familiar with pertinent State & Federal regulations
  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of chemical additives, wellhead, and downhole equipment, and artificial life methods
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and rotating power equipment required for an oil and gas production facility
  • Familiar with safety policies and procedures
  • Strong troubleshooting skills needed to maintain and increase production
  • Knowledge of production equipment, related machines, and tools including their design, use, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and how to apply it to work duties.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality controls, costs and other techniques for maximizing production operations.

ADDITIONAL LEAD OPERATOR REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Familiar with the basic operation of PLC systems
  • Thorough production equipment knowledge
  • Experience in leading or working in a group to meet job objectives on time and within budget.
  • Ability to plan logistics for transporting parts and personnel in a cost-effective manner

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Versatile in all aspects of oil and gas production operations, with capability of initiating methods to improve production
  • Operate basic computer programs including but not limited to: Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Understand customer needs and assume responsibility for customer satisfaction

 

A OPERATOR REQUIRED ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in groups/teams of individuals
  • Capable of bringing a production facility on line and troubleshooting operational problems
  • Capable of keeping a producing facility on line after receiving site specific training

  • Ability to use a swing rope to board platforms

ADDITIONAL LEAD OPERATOR REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects at varying stages concurrently
  • Ability to communicate with internal company, external vendors and clients effectively
  • Ability to make routine decisions within a predetermined span of authority

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience as an operator in the Oil & Gas production industry
  • Flexibility to work 12 hours per day plus overtime as needed, work a 7&7 or 14&14 rotational schedule, stand-by, rotating on-call while offshore, and holidays when required
  • Must have valid driver's license and respective driving record if the position requires the operations of a company/customers vehicle for work purposes
  • Must pass a Drug Screen, Physical, and Background/Pre-Employment Screening Checks.

REQUIRED TRAINING:

  • T-2 Certified as per Quality Production Management's Subpart "O" Training Plan
  • Certified in Crane/Rigger Operations as required by API RP 2D (must have valid certificate during contract period)
  • Trained in Medic First Aid/CPR, Water Survival/HUET, Fire Fighting, OSHA, & Safe Gulf
  • Trained in Environmental rules and regulations pertaining to oil & gas production
  • Trained in pertinent State and Federal regulations

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/CONTEXT:

 

Position requires frequent travel aboard helicopters and/or boats in the Gulf of Mexico. Physical demands of this position include: frequent heavy lifting (to 50lbs), frequent climbing, standing, stooping and/or bending, two-handed simultaneous operations, and good hand-eye coordination. Environmental demands include: outside operations aboard oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico with exposure to rain, sleet, snow, wind, humidity, cold and heat. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, lift, push, pull, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel reach with hands and arms climb or balance stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl talk and hear. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
