About the opportunity

We are looking for a technology professional with an experience in delivering large-scale software platforms / products, digital enterprise and cloud transformation programs.

Customer centricity is key, and the new addition to our team will possess a passionate, digital mindset to support Jacobs drive around digital culture and ways of working, in addition to a background in technology, systems integration and delivery of cloud-based technology.

This role offers accountability for the data estate of the client facing business, opportunity to drive value from the data assets whilst developing best practice of data exploitation and team culture, both externally and internally.

At its core the role will focus on creating a global Enterprise Architect (EA) function that rewards repeat business from rapid application adoption, predictive data and operational efficiency through the design and delivery of modern business practices as well as digital architecture. We're looking for a senior Enterprise Architect leader that understands culture and people behaviour as well as system design and data exploitation and governance best practice.

A passion for engagement and communication, coupled with an interest in interpersonal skills are key for success in this role. You'll manage different and complex internal and external senior stakeholders, including the Major Project and Programmes Digital Transformation Director. Other stakeholders will include customer facing teams deploying complex asset management solutions, internal digital and IT teams, and third-party suppliers and strategic technology partners.

What can you expect?

As Enterprise Architect you will ensure our most important customers and major programmes are supported with architectural principles and delivery methods drawing on key digital products and solutions to achieve business and team goals. The successful candidate will deliver key outcomes including:

  • Ensuring understanding of Enterprise Architecture challenges across the business; providing technology leadership for Jacobs and our most complex customer deployments;
  • Supporting our most important customers, including C-suite stakeholders, CDO, CTO in clear understanding and adoption of appropriate and repeatable enterprise architecture approaches; helping our client organizations envision, plan and build core platforms for enterprise use;
  • Standardisation of existing enterprise tools, platforms, architectures and technologies (undoing silos); championing best practice approaches and platforms;
  • Support data driven development and drive adoption of these key enterprise tools and technologies consistently through major projects and programmes (Digital Spine) using data to support programme teams;
  • Moving programme management from hindsight to real time information, allowing cost, schedule, carbon and quality decisions to be made on current versus historical data, whilst data trending proving forward looking insights, allowing Jacobs to transform the service it provides to clients; and
  • Levering Jacobs existing tools, technologies and approaches, alongside identifying new opportunities to integrate new partner components (or develop new enterprise solutions and platforms).

To achieve these outcomes, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will:

  • Evaluate current landscape and capability; evaluate internal IT functions, business development strategies and IT processes, and suggest improvements;
  • Architect cloud native applications using reference architecture approaches supported by major cloud vendors;
  • Support assessment of existing enterprise application portfolios and help envision and plan modernization roadmaps including architectural blueprints;
  • Work with our technology partners to ensure that Jacobs and our customers are able to benefit from new developments in technology products;
  • Present and justify solutions/proposals to IT and Business Leaders from Mid Management to CXOs;
  • Collaborate with Digital colleagues to understand application of existing (or new) products, partnering with the Digital Factory to deliver aligned architectures; and
  • Identify architectural gaps leading to new product/solution development opportunities for our customers.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Ability to lead on technology conversations with new Jacobs relationships at the C Suite level (CIO, CTO, CDO) and translate customer needs;
  • In depth awareness of emerging technology or operational trends as they support the strategic objectives of the business ("trusted advisor" role);
  • Broad knowledge of IT and business standards and best practices and their application;
  • Expert or Master level of knowledge of multiple IT disciplines including Cloud, Cloud Native Development, API Economy, Digital Experience, Artificial Intelligence, Process Automation, Stream/ Event Based Architecture, Cyber Security, Extremely Large-Scale Data Processing;
  • Ability to articulate complex issues (strategic or technical) to stakeholders with varied backgrounds;
  • Customer led; ensuring customer needs are foremost and strategically driven, not tech first, be that internal or external customer; user driven, not technology driven
  • Credible track record in building and implementing strategies
  • Practical expertise of driving a digital culture, and new ways of working including Lean Start-up and Agile.
  • Commercially articulate
  • Hands on approach to build a function and team from nothing versus an ITL ivory tower approach.

Ideally, here's what you'll also have:

  • Engineering industry experience
  • A technical (rather than theoretical) grounding - you have delivered technically.
  • Business Outcome rather than Technology Architecture driven career path
