PURPOSE AND ROLE:

 

The Assay Chemist role will be located in Calumet's Princeton, Louisiana facility and is responsible for crude oil feedstock testing, crude assay management, the assay stills, assay procedures and methods development, coordinating all internal and external testing, and other duties. This position reports to the Lab Supervisor; dotted line reporting responsibility to Director, Supply Chain Modeling and Strategy.

 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates potential new crude oil feedstocks and monitors ongoing quality of current crude oil feedstocks via distillation and analytical testing, and reports/inputs results into the assay database, analyzing results for validity and internal consistency

  • Assists with monitoring of crude quality changes over time using results of testing and assay software tools. Assay work is in support of corporate modeling group

  • Leads and supports the development and improvement of lab test methods and procedures

  • Ensures assay equipment is operating correctly and can meet all requirements

  • Reviews and evaluates crude testing results and works with the corporate planning and modeling groups to generate material conclusions

  • Manages related supplies and inventory

  • Leads and/or works with other departments on inquires

  • May be assigned to work on site initiatives

  • Manages and coordinates the storage and handling of inbound and outbound samples and retains

  • Capable of maintaining detailed records in research notebooks.

  • Employs creativity and problem solvent skills to find solutions to business opportunities.

  • Ensures data integrity and cleanliness of the laboratory

  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year College or University

  • Solid understanding of analytical chemistry

  • Proficiency with and maintains current knowledge of ASTM petroleum test methods

  • Ability to lift and transfer contents of five-gallon (~forty pound) sample cans

  • Ability to occasionally travel.

  • Good working knowledge of lab methods and procedures

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Package,includingwordprocessing,spreadsheets,database,presentationsoftware, electronic mail and scheduling

  • Experience and understanding of standardized and non-standardized test methods

POSITION PREFERENCES:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry

  • 7 or more years of petroleum or chemical related experience and/or training

  • Knowledge of lab methods and procedures in the petroleum industry
