Principal Rigid Pipeline Engineer


Job scope (budget, management, specific criteria):

The rigid pipelines design team is involved in a mixture of short turnaround operations support work and longer term subsea detailed design work scopes. The work performed by the Principal Pipeline Engineer can be summarised as follows:

  • Pre-execute studies to support the front end team and tenders;
  • Detailed design studies to support the execution of projects;
  • Post operational studies (i.e. life extensions, fitness for purpose) to support the IRM business;
  • Design/analysis of subsea rigid pipelines (Single pipelines, PIP etc.);
  • Design/analysis of rigid tie in spools and risers;
  • Review and provide assurance of the quality of all subsea rigid pipeline work subcontracted by the company
  • Provide assistance to the Team Manager in supporting the team;
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the global engineering centres as required;
  • Contributing to the technical development of the rigid pipeline team;
  • Provide technical leadership to solve various engineering problems;
  • Carry out risk assessments.



Must have:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering (Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Aeronautical).


Nice to have:

  • Post graduate degree (M.Sc or Ph.D) in Engineering;
  • Chartered Engineer.


Typical background and experience required:

Must have:

  • Extensive experience in subsea pipeline engineering;
  • Strong and broad understanding of pipeline and subsea engineering;
  • Proven strong technical track record in the design of subsea pipelines, including PIP systems;
  • Detailed understanding of pipeline global buckling or trawl interaction;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Team Player;
  • Customer focus;
  • Highly self-motivated with a drive for results and improvement;
  • Ability to manage and champion change;
  • Good computer literacy (e.g. in MS Office);
  • Proven track record in Abaqus FE analysis;
  • A strong proven understanding of all relevant design codes and recommended practices;
  • Full command of the English Language.


Nice to have:

  • Proven ability to program in Python and/or VBA;
  • Awareness of flow assurance, material selection, metocean and geotechnical engineering;
  • Knowledge of using Sage Profile, FS2000, Autopipe, Orcaflex and MathCad.
