Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Senior EC&I Engineer to join our New Nuclear & Generation Service Business. The candidate will be based in our Knutsford Office with the opportunity to travel to client sites, as required. Consideration would be given to being based out of our Gloucester office or our Newcastle office subject to skill area.

The post is for those with demonstrable experience in delivering solutions to the civil nuclear or other highly regulated industries. Candidates will be familiar with the requirements of working in a regulated environment providing EC&I engineering support. Knowledge of programmable electronic components, equipment qualification (hardware & software), nuclear safety case, and obsolescence management is a distinct advantage.

The candidate must be highly motivated with the ability self-manage and deliver tasks to quality, schedule and budget. They will be confident and comfortable when facing customers and able to develop relations, with the ability to support business offers that meet customer requirements. The ability to mentor and develop junior engineers with a willingness to passing on knowledge and experience is a distinct advantage.

Key responsibilities:

The Senior EC&I Engineer will be responsible for the delivery of a range of EC&I tasks across the engineering lifecycle. These projects could involve programmable electronic systems, equipment qualification, system design, design justification and substation, validation and verification of software and hardware. Responsibilities will include:
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Electronic / Electrical Engineering)
  • Ability to work in UK and eligible to gain BPSS and CTC vetting (minimum security clearance)
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industry (e.g. Rail)
  • An ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and requirement specifications
  • Awareness of software-based control systems (e.g. PLCs, FPGAs, SMART Components)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems and process instrumentation


Qualifications:

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Electronic / Electrical Engineering)
  • Ability to work in UK and eligible to gain BPSS and CTC vetting (minimum security clearance)
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or other highly regulated industry (e.g. Rail)
  • An ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and requirement specifications
  • Awareness of software-based control systems (e.g. PLCs, FPGAs, SMART Components)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, control systems and process instrumentation

Desirable Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with the complete C&I hardware and software development lifecycle, including management and modification processes
  • Experience with relevant guidelines, standards and practices (e.g. IEC 61508, 61511, 61513)
  • Experience with obsolescence management, including the identification of obsolete components and suitable replacements
  • Understanding of fault analysis and reliability assessments using recognised techniques such as FMEA, FTA, HAZID and HAZOP
  • Experience in the production, modification and review of User Requirement Specifications
  • Experience in functional safety determination, both probabilistic and deterministic
  • Experience in the production and review of Verification and Validation Test Specifications
  • An appreciation for cyber security requirements and identifying associated risks
  • Chartered / Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional body or working towards this
