MSSI is part of the Technology and Consultancy area of CMS. We cover areas such as Materials Testing, Non-Destructive Testing, and Structural Analysis to ensure the integrity and reliability of Critical Infrastructure and Plants primarily in the nuclear industry. We do this through Research and Development, and practical application within our world leading innovation centre and laboratories in Warrington.

Key Responsibilities include:

This is a significant opportunity for someone to join MSSI and bring about major strategic changes, with strong business advantages. Whilst MSSI already has strong QA credentials, it is now time for changes to set MSSI up for future business development.

The successful candidate will be given complete responsibility for MSSI QA performance. This will require critical review of current QA practices, recommendation for improvements, and leadership to bring about agreed improvements. Mentoring of staff to help them with QA requirements will be a feature of the role, requiring strong people skills. The role will interact with the whole approximately 120 strong MSSI team, with members with skills ranging from laboratory technicians, through to world-leading structural integrity experts.

The role will report to the MSSI Leadership Team. For the right proactive candidate, there will be scope to spot opportunities to grow the role into other strategic areas.

Specific role details are as follows:

  • Full time champion of QA within MSSI
  • Maintenance and development of QA capability within MSSI through training, audits etc
  • Maintenance and development of local QA instructions and documentation
  • Maintenance and development of interfaces between local MSSI QA and corporate QA requirements
  • Support to MSSI staff responding to QA queries and training requirements
  • Interfacing with external QA accreditation agencies, including managing external audits
  • Managing MSSI QA communications
  • QA advisor to MSSI projects
  • SC security clearance is required.



  • Degree level qualified in a structural integrity or Quality Assurance related discipline.
  • Quality Assurance experienced.
  • Demonstrably proactive, with experience in developing a culture of engagement and ownership.


  • Professionally qualified in Quality Assurance.
  • Awareness of structural integrity testing or analysis.
  • Experience in supporting multi-disciplinary technical teams.
  • Experience in working in Laboratory type environments.
