The engineer will take ownership of the completeness, accuracy and timeliness of the work assigned to you. Individuals in this position must demonstrate the ability to progress from basic design work assignments to more complicated and involved projects working in conjunction with a technical team.
This position will be initially established at Ridgecrest, California in support of Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake and in direct support of earthquake recovery work through approximately 2023. The work location can thereafter be flexibly located in the general southern CA area and is expected to thereafter support similar project assignments as various locations, predominantly in the U.S. West, but potentially throughout the United States.
The position requires the selected candidate to support the Jacobs Program Manager, NAVFAC SW Design Branch and Jacobs multi-disciplinary design team to facilitate Post Award Design Support (PADS) and Post Construction Award Support (PCAS) for the 31 projects currently in various stages of execution.
•Work in a fast-paced environment and work under tight deadlines, while maintaining high quality standards.
•Perform reviews of design drawings and specifications based on design build request for proposal documents
•Prepare drawings and specification detailing the Electrical System designed.
•Prepare inspection and design reports and presentation materials.
•Performs construction administration and field investigation tasks for assigned projects including document management and processing RFI's and Change Orders
•Support PM in the on-going determination of project scheduling requirements, manpower requirements, and project budgets.
•Establish project design standards and requirements as applicable for each project
•Supervise mid-level and junior design staff to maintain quality and technical content through the life of each project
•Provide staffing development and mentoring for junior staff
•Participate in internal and external meetings and document discussions
•Gather information, interview stakeholders, makes studies, performs calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches as required
•Perform routine and high level tasks under minimal supervision using well-defined standards, procedures and codes.
•Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and architects
•Perform product research; assist project designers and project architects with materials selection and system research
•Design new electrical distribution system, including site medium voltage (up to 35kV) distribution or modification to existing electrical systems to develop or improve them
•Prepare and document Energy compliance calculations and forms
•Perform life cycle cost analyses
•Provide project quality control reviews at project milestones and continuous over the shoulder review.
•Select equipment and lighting fixtures for interior and exterior applications
•Design and perform calculations for lighting systems and associated controls
•Prepare load analysis, load flow, short circuit, arc flash and coordination studies for different stages of design
•Bachelors' Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
•15+ years' Electrical design experience
•Candidates must be a P.E.
•Basic knowledge of electrical building systems
•Basic knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines
•Experience in data center, power, UPS systems, generator systems and medium voltage distribution projects
•U.S. Citizenship is preferred
•Proficiency in REVIT and AutoCAD
•Proficiency in AGI 32 Lighting Analysis, SKM Power Tools for Windows, Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint and Excel program
•Previous DoD experience, basic competency with Federal energy standards, Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) and other Government requirements
•Experience in lightning protection, security, and fire alarm system design
•Knowledge of the federal Unified Facilities Codes (UFCs) and DoD regulations
•Working knowledge of electrical and building code requirements
