Our Boston office is seeking a co-op student to work in our Highway/Transportation Group from January to July 2021. Currently, due to COVID-19, our office is working remotely to the end of this calendar year. If remote work continues into 2021 - we would plan for our co-op student to also work remotely and be sent a company laptop for their internship.

This individual will work with a variety of experienced Engineer's and senior staff and will be exposed to a variety of engineering challenges in their specific discipline. This position involves assisting the Highway/Transportation Group with aspects of roadway design and the production of construction plans and engineering documents for key clients such as MassDOT Highway and the MBTA. The majority of the work effort will involve AutoCAD Civil 3D software, quantity and cost estimation, and various field work and production support activities.

Current and upcoming design projects include several complete streets projects which involve improvements such as a two-way separated bike lane, a shared-use path, roundabouts, and traffic calming features. Other projects include long corridor projects which incorporate new or reconstructed traffic signals as well as municipal transportation studies involving complete streets design planning and cut-through traffic mitigation. The individual selected for this position may also be exposed to various field work opportunities including Road Safety Audits, data collection, infrastructure inspections, and site visits.


  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering program;
  • Invested interest in transportation and roadway design;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Previous experience in roadway design and plan production with AutoCAD Civil 3D;
  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision;
  • Written and verbal communications skills;
  • Time management and attention to detail;
  • Organizational skills to effectively document design decisions and calculations;
