SUMMARY:

The Facility Assessment Engineer / Architect will be responsible for performing building evaluations including Facility Condition Assessments (FCA), AND/OR Space Sufficiency Audits using an automated digital tool set. Candidate will conduct site visits at multiple locations and enter data into the digital tools while on location. Candidates must be generally local to locations throughout the state of Maryland. Opportunity depends somewhat on candidate location and program demand. This is a position with 6 month duration but the potential for on-going assignments or permanent employment based on need and demonstrated success in the role. Advancement opportunities available to those individuals who demonstrate leadership characteristics, independent critical thinking, as well as proficiency in core services. Advancement opportunities may include supervisory responsibilities, leading field teams, or managing projects/programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned in conformance with state and federal regulations.

Depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Actively participate in multi-day training sessions, demonstrate ability to learn and develop proficiency with digital data collection methodologies; develop and demonstrate understanding of program requirements
  • Travel daily to scheduled sites, interface with clients, organize work and objectives, adhere to rigid schedule
  • Perform site visits to occupied buildings
  • Evaluate age, condition, cost and reliability of building Mechanical, Electrical and Architectural systems
  • Photograph pertinent systems within digital tool set
  • Decide and enter necessary data and brief comments into digital tools
  • Enter specific room dimension and configuration information into digital platform using guidance templates
  • Enter answers to specific questions about room and building spaces to determine sufficiency levels.
  • Review work for quality and completeness; submit findings electronically daily
  • Solicit assistance from support teams when necessary to gain assistance, ensure work completeness and adherence to strict schedule
  • Maintain communication with team leaders, program managers and report reviewers; keep team members informed of and resolve issues that impact scope, performance or schedule.
  • Ability to work from remote location with limited frequency
  • Climb ladders (including vertical ladders up multiple stories) and/or steep roof stairs (for each building assessed, at least once per on-site assessment).
  • Ability to travel, on average, approximately 80% of time to client sites across the state of Maryland via plane and/or driving as determined based on project location. Common patterns of travel include one day on-site followed by one day at home. The time at home is spent writing reports that communicate the field findings. Overnight stays away from home may be required.
  • Demonstrates BV's guiding principles in support of the company's strategic goals.
  • Follows all documented policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and Work Instructions applicable to the position and support of BV's quality standards.
  • Maintains safe and clean work area by complying with all procedures, rules, and regulations.

Education and/or Experience: Degree in Architecture and/or Engineering or ideal. Candidates with demonstrated relevant experience and certifications in lieu of degree will be considered. Candidates will have experience in one or more of the following: Facility Design, Building Construction, Assessments, and/or Maintenance Management. Proficiency with tablet-based applications is preferred.
