Role Summary:

This role involves the design, development and optimization of elastomer-based sealing systems for new and existing products. As a key member of the Seal & Materials Center of Excellence, you will be responsible for developing new seals and improving existing seal designs. You will be setting specifications for seal manufacturing and releasing the seal systems to the oil and gas market. The role is based in Subsea Drilling Systems and will extend into other Baker Hughes product groups as well.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Apply experience to design complex mechanical components for sealing applications
  • Collaborate with product and design teams for full component testing and functionality
  • Skillfully apply finite element modeling to project work
  • Immerse in the details in the seal manufacturing process to advance projects
  • Plan and lead projects to bring new seals to commercialization
  • Define sealing system specifications for products
  • Own the development and approval of BOMs and drawings for seals
  • Team with material experts on material selection
  • Develop test plans and procedures for all sealing applications
  • Develop acceptance criteria on seals based on performance
  • Mentor product engineers on commercial seal design and application


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or materials engineering
  • Experience in designingor working with seals
  • Ability to produce high quality results while working independently
  • Experience with modeling in Abaqus/Creo/ANSYS or related modeling/design software
  • Able to interface effectively across the organization


Desired Characteristics:
  • Prior oilfield experience in drilling or subsea systems
  • Working knowledge of different sealing technologies both non-metallic and metallic
  • Experience working on seals for high-temperature and high-pressure applications
  • Clear thinker with ability to develop, communicate, and deliver clear strategy and action plans
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including good presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to sort through complex technical information and make timely and sound decisions
