Where you fit in?

The Offshore Wind Structural Engineer will be a member of the Offshore Wind Wind Business Development team in New Energies and will support the Mayflower JV.

This role is an opportunity for a high capacity Engineer with a passion for New Energies to contribute to the development of the Mayflower venture in North America in a challenging technical and commercial environment
Successful managing input and interfaces with contracting & procurement, project services and cross discipline (electrical, wind turbine, metocean, geotechnical, operations) are a large contributor to success.

Mayflower is the lease holder of BOEM OCS-0521 off the coast of Massachusetts, an area of 128k acres capable to deliver around 1.6GW of wind energy. This position will be part of the project team supporting the foundations package manager to develop the project to reach final investment decision and take the project through construction and operation in the period 2019-2025.


What will you do:

  • Perform enveloping and concept select for wind turbine and offshore substation foundations. Advising on the overall foundation design of the wind farm
  • Perform design for wind turbine and offshore substations foundations for business development activities (tenders)
  • Tendering of design, fabrication, transport and installation contracts in cooperation with CP (prepare employer requirements, review bid submissions).
  • Interface with electrical, metocean, geotechnical, yield and turbine engineering, schedule, cost and risk engineering
  • Understanding requirements of regulators, lenders, owners, investors on design; interaction with 3rd party certifiers.
  • Work closely with suppliers to find competitive solutions
  • Managing the fabrication and installation of the offshore foundations
  • Working with external consultants, suppliers and contractors to conduct detailed studies where necessary
  • The structural engineer will be responsible to liaise with a Structural TA2 outside of the NE Group for assurance, and to liaise with the Offshore Structures group outside NE to embed lessons and best practices on design.

Requirements

 

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Bachelor's Degree in higher in Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture or similar.
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience in offshore wind / oil and gas offshore structures
  • High performing offshore structures engineer with experience and drive for New technology, Low cost concepts, Design, Project engineering, Contracting and procurement, Cost estimating and New Energies
  • Proven eagerness and ability to build new expertise
  • Ability to link business drivers to deep technical understanding and vice versa
  • Effective communicator with ability to collaborate and integrate the many parties usually at the table. Work effectively with technical team, 3rd parties and JV partners
  • Driven to understand, instead of to assume
  • Strong team player whilst also ability to act autonomously
  • Leverage existing Shell expertise in related areas such as materials and corrosion, condition monitoring and inspection
  • Credible competence levels (i.e. Knowledge/Skill) across the CSO discipline competence framework:
    • Geotechnical;
    • Fixed substructure (monotower and jackets);
    • Advanced analyses (dynamics);
    • Transport, Load-out, Construction, Installation (offshore experience);
  • Relevant experience in offshore wind farm structural engineering is a plus notably when in the areas of monotowers, transportation and installation, operations and access.
