To elaborate the industrial numerical code for building structural models of the underground with strong emphasis on uncertainty quantification. These models are essential to understand the history of the underground and its structure, enabling to find oil and gas reservoirs and drilling wells in a complex context.

Responsibilities:
  • To build a method allowing to consider the interpretation of data uncertainty, the one linked to the faults, in order to estimate the variability, it induces on the structures.
  • To do a research of bibliography to have a panoramic view of the current techniques allowing to quantify uncertainty of interpretation data.
  • To implement a new technique based on finite element approximation that allows to relax the geometrical constraints due to fault discontinuities, by introducing them as a dual field in the formulation. This allows to have a more flexible representation of the structure and to decouple the discontinuities from the space discretization.
  • To use recent results of stochastic finite elements (polynomial chaos) to study the variability of the structural models linked to the fault uncertainty.


Qualifications:

Knowledge of statistics
Some skills in C++ will be an add on.

Strong knowledge of applied mathematics (partial differential equations, finite elements, optimization)
Strong problem-solving skills and technical judgment
Excellent English communication skills/French language is a plus
Passionate in programming and learning new skills in various domains
