Position Description:
We are seeking a Risk Engineer/ Fire Prevention Project Support Engineer to join the Loss Prevention Department (LPD) at Saudi Aramco.

LPD provides safety services to customers and stakeholders; including corporate and executive management, Saudi Aramco operating, support and project organizations, employees, the Saudi Arabian government, contractors, and members of the public. LPD has ten divisions - seven field divisions and three centralized technical support divisions. Field offices are located in Abqaiq, Riyadh, Ras Tanura, Dhahran, Udhailiyah, Jeddah (including Yanbu and Jazan), and Tanajib.

As a Risk Engineer/Fire Prevention Project Support Engineer you will be expected to work with Facilities Planning Department, Project Management, and operating facilities to provide technical guidance on facility design requirements pertaining to fire prevention and process safety engineering areas, including but not limited to firewater systems, fireproofing, emergency shutdown systems, drainage systems, tank designs, electrical classifications, pipeline design factors, equipment access and layout, spacing, risk areas, etc.

Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering, plus ten (10) years of relevant industry experience. Professional Engineering certification in Fire Protection Engineering, or an advanced degree is highly desirable, but not required.

At least ten years' experience in engineering, five of which include addressing technical safety and fire prevention engineering issues plus comprehensive knowledge of hydrocarbon industry design and operational standards and practices.

Excellent ability to communicate in technical English with peers as well as members of management, and be able to produce clear and concise oral and written reports in English.

Desired Competencies

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability in the competencies below:

Developing and/or applying engineering standards related to safety and fire prevention in hydrocarbon and petrochemical facility design (e.g, NFPA, API, etc.).

Developing corporate policy and philosophy on process safety engineering and fire prevention for Executive Management approval and implements policy decisions.

Experience in the design of oil and gas facilities with focus on the design of firewater systems, emergency shutdown systems, fireproofing, gas detection, electrical classifications, pipeline design factors, tank Design, and plant layout.

Insurance risk surveys of hydrocarbon and petrochemicals facilities for adequacy of design, operations and maintenance.

Experience in conducting design reviews for new projects and upgrade of existing facilities for compliance with company and industry safety standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:
You are required to perform the following:

Provide technical guidance and develops procedures for all company organizations on fire prevention and process safety engineering in facilities design and related operational requirements.

Review all new projects to ensure conformance to company engineering standards; represent the department at project proposal meetings, provide continued guidance through design, construction, and commissioning.

Provide company-wide technical guidance and assistance during technical fire/process safety design-related surveys of Aramco facilities for adequacy of design, operations and maintenance.

Keep current with the latest developments in fire prevention technology, industry standards and practices, and new equipment and materials.

Analyze fires and process safety incidents in Saudi Aramco to determine causes and whether company standards or other requirements require update or changes, or whether other remedial measures should be considered; also reviews reports of incidents worldwide for similar consideration.

Initiate and participate in studies to resolve problems outside currently available technology. Participates on task forces and study groups assigned to resolve specific problems.

Develop scope of necessary training programs for department and other personnel in field of process safety engineering and fire prevention engineering, and provides training assistance as required.

Use hazard analysis techniques to identify corporate risk exposure and develop cost-effective countermeasures.

Assist in surveys of Saudi Aramco operations by insurance, Government, and other outside agencies, as the company's expert on fire prevention and B Series Standard requirements.

Act as a mentor to other loss prevention professionals.
