Position Summary

OceanSMART is seeking skilled Maritime, Software and data science professionals to join our dynamic team. As OceanSmart Marine Assurance Product Manager you will lead the strategy, planning, delivery and in-life optimization of the Marine Assurance products. You will develop the vision and roadmap for the product based on input from internal stakeholders, customers, market research and your own industry insight, contributing to the creation and maintenance of the go-to-market plans, value propositions, support materials and internal training

The Role has an active external aspect leading and managing the relationship with industry bodies such as IMO, OCIMF, Inter tanko, and Baltic Exchange, run users and industry forums to ensure the continued enhancement and relevance of the marine assurance product suite

Duties & Responsibilities

TheOceanSMART Marine Assurance Product Manage leads the strategy, planning, delivery and in-life optimization of the Marine Assurance products; translates business strategy into product strategy; and

develops the vision and roadmap for the product based on input from internal stakeholders, customers, market research and industry insight.

Responsibilities / Functions
  • Manage all aspects of in-life products, including customer feedback, requirements, and issues
  • Define the product strategy and roadmap
  • Manage the product throughout its lifecycle from concept to end-of-life
  • Collect, manage and maintain traceability of requirements from all stakeholders across product releases
  • Develop the business case for investments and gain internal approval
  • Write Product Requirements and Market Requirements documents
  • Work with internal stakeholders and third parties to assess and establish partnerships
  • Be the recognized expert in the business on the product, the market, relevant technology and the competition.
  • Monitor, report and improve product performance
  • Run trials and MVPs, develop and deliver industry user groups
  • Commission market and competitor research, incorporating resulting intelligence into product strategy

Contribute to the marketing required to launch products

  • Manage Partner and industry body relationships,
  • Attend workshops, trade shows, and seminars to keep up-to-date on changes in the industry.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Reporting Relationship
  • Reports to the Director, Maritime Digital Products, Sales & Marketing.


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
  • 10+ General Maritime or product Manage experience
  • 5+ years' experience working in Marine Assurance or services Marine Assurance software

  • Excellent understanding of Bulk Maritime Supply chain including chartering, brokering, and voyage/vessel operations/management
  • A desire to change an industry that has never desired change
  • Desire to be a part of working from a small team to a major operation
  • A person whose motivation is tipped towards live to work is preferred to work to live
  • Ability to quickly learn new products, interfaces, and processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-team environment (in person and distributed)

Working Conditions

This position requires travel which is characterized as follows.
  • Regular customer meeting across the globe
  • Regular visits to OceanSMART internal locations: Houston, London, San Diego
  • Regular air travel 25 to 50%
